Well, last year was a really good year for Guido. He won the Scale Concourse award in Montana (people’s favorite); he ended up winning the Holmes Hobbies show off contest and is featured on the Holmes Hobbies website; the Japanese photographer, Yuski, took a picture of him at the Rccrawler Nationals in Moab and so there is a picture of Guido in World RC magazine; and finally JIA asked if I would send Guido to him for a photo shoot.
I appreciate all the kind words everyone has for Guido but despite that there were some flaws that I couldn’t live with any longer. When JIA contacted me I had seen the Wyatt Racing Bronco featured in RC Driver and I knew Guido wasn’t up to that level but I thought I could get a little closer. So I asked JIA for some time to redo some things. Well months have passed and I have struggled with how to make Guido truly meet the vision I had for him.
The first problem was tires, this is supposed to be a Top Truck Challenge rig so it needs at least 44” tall tires to fit the build right but the tallest, most scale looking tire I could find was the Axial Rock Lizards and they only scaled out to 40” tall. Well, I’ve finally found the solution to the basic problem; progress has been happening for the last few months but now things are really going to start rolling.
First things I did was build some new front shock mounts and upper coil buckets. I really didn’t like the way I had mounted the shocks before but like a lot of things, it was done to get it done in time for scale meet in Montana last year. I really like the new hoops with the desert truck mounting plate, complete with speed holes.
Then I cut off the top of the cage. The cage was made short on purpose to make it look more hot rodish but after dieselfuel pointed it out I began to notice that it made the rest of the body seem too wide and long. I added about 1/4” to the A pillars, built new B pillars and added in a new section for the rear kickers. I also began to notice how bent up things got from the fall off the workbench in Ben’s shop so more triangulation was needed.
I built some new rear upper spring buckets and tied them into the cage for more support.
More to come, thanks for checking it out. "thumbsup"
