So I did a thing.. I sent it on amain, 460 Canadian kopeks later I have the SSD Trail King on order. It should be here the second week of October. I have my first “Rona” a Redcat gen 8 that I’ve done some extensive reliability mods to. I’m happy with performance of it but I just can’t trust it’s reliability. I wanted an scx10-2 RBK but at 300cad I figured the 160$ dollars I would have saved it would have easily been surpassed with a few essential upgrades the axial platform needs. They said buy once cry once right? Also two is one, and one is none!

I have the injora mj cab and rear cage that I modded for more accurate scale representation. How it sits on the gen 8 chassis with a cage I built out of brake line.

Right now it sits on the factory gen8 tires that I cut and threw in 4.5 CI foams. It need 4.19 tires for proper clearance. With the gen 8 I always needed more tire to do what I wanted. So with that in mind I made the executive decision to order up the TK. This build will be slow, I don’t have a printer either so no fancy plastic porn either. I have a set of RC4WD class 1 baja claws in order from a Canadian hobby store as well for this chassis.

So today I spent another chunk of Canadian dollars. I’ve always dreamed of building an RC4WD body so I’m glad I’m able to purchase this today. Low and behold

I’m seriously giddy :) who said Jeep’s and Toyota’s can’t be friends?

Good evening tiny truckers. I’ve been able to get my chassis out for a test run in the back yard. I’ve noticed a lot of backlash coming from the Center section of the transmission. I’m not sure yet as to the cause. Everything looks great inside. And had grease though Not much stayed on after test run. I robbed the 13t crawlmaster sport from my Gen8 as a benchmark. Paired with newly acquired hw1080 and radio link rc6gs v2 radio. I love the motor in the Gen8 on 3s. I didn’t however love it in the ssd chassis. It’s to fast and has a sub par hold. I’m thinking about running a Holmes crawlmaster pro motor in this rig. Something with with a touch lower kv and a stronger drag brake. From what I’ve gathered on the data from the other fantastic builds the rebuildable Holmes 550 cans fit and a hw fusion will not with out mounting the front top link in a single shear fashion and snipping off the two mounts from the axle housing Center section. I’m also not able to adjust pinion mesh as there is only a few thousandths wiggle room on the motor plate.

Hello guys. I’ve had the last few days off work to get some building done. Ive narrowed the sliders to 160mm wide to allow the body to fit below. I attached magnets to the 4 corners of the interior set. This allowed me to shoo goo magnets onto the modified sliders to mount the body. The body is held quite firmly in position. And seeing as how this Turk is a small block Chevy dana44 swapped yota I figured I would give it proper torque and wheelspeed so I did it justice by Ordering up a mamba x 2280kv combo. I wanted to go with a hh crawlmaster pro 550 10t but just the motor was coming out to 200cad by the time i would hold it. This rig will be getting well used so I guess Its time to step into the brushless game \m/ going brushless will also allow me to go to a smaller pinion on the motor. Being locked into the 16t pinion with a brushed motor was kind of a bummer in all honesty.

Why would you be locked into a 16t pinion?

The motor plate. There is no room for adjustment as brushes motors do not have a flat mounting surface and the bearing protrudes into the motor plate leaving no room for adjustment.

When you say the crawlmaster motor is too fast, about how fast is it? I want a 60/40 motor balance 60% trailing 40% crawling so I’d like to have a good amount of speed.

Yes I found the crawlmaster sport 540 13turn and the 16tooth pinion not enough torque, drag brake, and speed. It really wasn’t overly fast I suppose. 8m/hr maybe. Just really lacked the torque and hold I was looking for. A 16turn could be a better choice maybe

Ah ok. That actually sounds like around the speed I want lol. But I will want a lot of torque pulling a truck on a trailer, so maybe not? Lol. I’ve got plenty of time to decide.

I ended up going castle mamba x 2280kv lol.
It is such a torque monster and has excellent drag brake. Very worth it IMO

I have been looking at brushless for a few days now. I was set on the micro X, but if you can fit the full size in there then might as well, right? Does it fit under the interior?
