Gearing question

Ok so I’m running a castle bec, micro x, Holmes puller pro 3300kv, reefs 444, in a 10.2 3 gear trans, spur 56, pinion 11, over under drives in axles. It never overheated on me ever and ripped pretty fast. Now I gutted the rig, same electronics tho. it’s now a tgh 2.low tranny(I believe it’s very close gearing to the 3 gear) same spur and pinion and trx4 axles(7.11 to 1) so obviously my rig is crazy slow wich is ok but now I’m over heating or getting fairly warm on easy crawls. So my question is am I over heating cuz I’m so under geared I’m running at full rpm more sore so then before? Gear up for less throttle input? I don’t know lol

Could be lots of things. For starters 3300kv is too much for the micro x.

There could be binding somewhere.

Running at higher rpms more often, I am not sure. Could be an issue.

What is over heating? The motor or esc? Is it shutting down?

Also it's pretty hot outside during the summer, could be that.

Or less airflow on the motor.

No I binding, it rolled free before I got the spur on, esc is cold motor is hot, I ran the other setup a week prior to this setup so about the same summer heat, I didn’t think about airflow

If the pinion spur mesh is too tight that will definitely cause heat.

you should definitely be able to wiggle one gear and not move the other gear. So when in the middle of 2 teeth the gears are not touching.
Tight gear mesh will also increase noise.

I know under gearing is a thing. But I always run 100:1 or slower and never have issues. To be fair though I don't comp and I spend at least as much time talking as I do driving. So 2200mah may last close to 2 hours.

I am pretty sure motor heat from over gearing is caused by "current ripple"
I am not sure if active drag brake increases or decreases the current ripple, but thats a term you can google to find out more. it may also be called Complementary PWM, (aka "damped light" for blheli)
So you might try turning active brake on an off to see if there is a difference (I think you can only do this by rolling back the firmware)
also timing advance can increase motor temps, so you can back that off too.

so your gear ratio for the rear or slower axle is 106.56/1 which is not much slower than what I run.

Lost my train of thought...
