i am starting a crewcab dropbed f-350 build based off the scx10ii chassis. my intentions are to build it as a tow rig and eventually get a trailer to pull my yeti or my sons scx10ii along. this is a ground up build, using parts from wherever i can get the parts i want, mostly off rpphobby.com. i intend this to be a scale type build. this is my first time ever attempting something of this nature. here it goes. i'm buying things as i think i need/want them. and didnt forgot to take more pics of before
starting off with the cab. i purchased 3 tamiya high lift bodies, and some sheets of styrene. cut up the first 2 to create the crewcab portion, then used the 3rd body to finish roof. added in some styrene and bonded then roof together on the inside. sanded and then applied bondo to the outside trying to smooth the roof and seems the best i could.(not 100% happy with the way it came out, but hey its my first time). let bondo dry and sanded it all down. Onto primer and paint. i used some duplicolor self etching green primer. sanded a little bit, off to paint. just used some paint i had left over, thinking it would look great, but it came out ok. (its not my first time painting) used duplicolor ford engine blue. masking off front fenders and painting them white.
starting with the bed. i cut the first one. cutting the bed floor out. using some .030 styrene, i began making the sides and front . now i know that the stock bed is tapered in the rear, and i did not want that look.didnt get alot of pictures of the bed.
havent worked on the bed for a while. will get back onto it soon.
started on the chassis. picked up a cheap set of scx10ii frame rails off ebay. purchased a boom racing rear chassis brace. picked up stock shock towers and center skid off a member on here, and also purchased axial frame brace set off rpphobby. for hardware, i've been getting m3 hardware from my local orchard supply. purchased 1/2" c channel aluminum stock to make the extension on the frame i need. left the extesnion long, until i get the body mounted. ordered a pair of gcm 3d printed ar44 leaf spring perches on shapeways.com and went to rpphobby and picked up:
rc4wd leaf spring shackle kit
SSD pro44 rear axle
tamiya high lift f350 leaf springs
yeah racing hd shackles
again didnt get a whole lot of picutes that i wanted
thats about where im standing now, havent decided if i want to leave front coil sprung or swap to leaf sprung(seeing as how i have the parts)
