I am wanting to change my MOA to dual ESC's. I have read quite a few threads about them for crawlers most of them from 2012. Seems like the FXR was the most favored. My question is there better ones out in 2015. I am wanting all the crawler features such as drag brake. I already have the Futaba 4PLS so running the duals is not a problem. I also have the CC BEC so the onboard BEC is not really a concern. For now I am sticking with brushed motors maybe down the road I might go to brushless but do not see a need at the moment. I mostly run 2s lipo's I could go to 3s if necessary as I have a couple of those. So if money was not an object what would you say the best crawler ESC would be. These would be going in a 1/8 scale MOA currently running 13T motors. However if the new ESC's need me to change the motors I would consider it.

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.

Dual FX-Rs or Dual Castle Creations Sidewinder Micros is still the hot ticket for ESCs. Nothing has really changed on that front. I think Holmes Hobbies has an ESC or two, but I don't think you'll find anything outside of those 3 names. Always contact the company for their input. You'll get more fact out of them than opinion....about their product, at least.

Was thinking some more about this. If brushless would be a better option please give you recommendations. Just from the older threads 2008-2012 I got the impression that brushed was still the better way to go.

What are the main differences between the Sidewinder and the FXR? Anything worth mentioning? Is one or the other clearly better. Also looking at the FXR it say max 35t motor but the sell a combo with a 55t pro motor. What am i missing.

Never mind I see that is the minimum not max.

You want to check out the Holmes Hobbies Br mini's.. They are 2014-2015..
Fxr's are great! They are just more expensive and not a "crawler" esc..
The micro might be cheaper, but I don't know if they will be the best choice for 1/8 scale..

HH is the way to look. You can probably look at most of the XR, bully, Berg, super, sporty, and scale threads, that aren't brushless and find HH esc's..

Those are nice but I am not sure about the caseless thing. I am not looking just at mini ESC. So far I am looking at either the FXR, Sidewinder 3 or the HH BR-XL. Is there anything better about the HH BL? Remember I am not too worried about the cost so let me know the best and disregard the price factor.

Lol.. I decased fxr's when I ran them and have decased brxl's..
I decase everything. Including rx's and bec's.

Anyways.. They fxr, while it's good and it's small, it's not a purpose built esc for crawling.
Drag brake can be lacking, but is ok.
Trying to park on a incline, will let ur rig drift. Then again, it always for a smoother decent down hill, if your throttle control isn't that good, because of this reason.

With HH, everything is better. More power, lvc, plug any pack in (2s to 6s) and it works. Drag brake is Awesome! It's purpose built for crawler's/scalers. Of course, it supports a vendor here on RCC and our hobby!

EDIT: HH BL? The brushless stuff?

It says it does brushed also just wondering if it would be better than a BR-XL for brushed usage. Plus I would have the ability to go to a sensored brushless later if I wanted to. What are your thoughts on the Sidewinder 3. It has up to a 40% drag brake and I like the castle link software. Why do you decase all you esc. Isn't the heatsink needed?

Oh oh, the new BL esc.. I haven't got mine yet, but yes, it does both..
The Brxl and BL esc, are castle link compatible. They are actually castle based products. They are just made better, more crawler orientated/based..

40% drag brake is Not enough! My go fast Sexo (wraith based) and yeti are both 30mph and are 50-60% drag brake. The only reason they are that low, is so they don't flip over when I let off the throttle. I have to use throttle to act as drag brake, if I want it to stay in place.

I decase for space or weight.. The heatsink is attached to the esc, not the case.

Hmm .. So now I am thinking I want the HH Trailmaster BL. When will you have yours? If you will have it soon maybe I can wait to see what you have to say about it. However I am impatient and was wanting to set up the dual ESC's this weekend. Are there any HH employees or tech guys on this forum that I could ask about it. Like what drag brake settings are available, which CC ESC its based on, and so on.

The trailmaster BL is based off a castle MMP. Brxl is based of a sidewinder.
JRH does his technical things and use's the boards.

There were a few out to other Team driver's but the actual esc was just released today.. So not much other info out there, right now.
Other then anything you have already read about a MMP.. Is what it's closest too.

HH doesn't have "employees" on here.. JRH has Team driver's.. ;)

Good to know. So are there any team drivers on here that have this ESC in their possession. I ask cause I can get a MMP for 109.00 shipped and from HH the BL is 139.00 without shipping, but if it has better Rock Crawling stuff built in like drag brake then it HH I will get.

BTW thanks for all your help and patience.

Dual brushed esc setup on moa rigs is best! HH mini brxl's.

Now hurry up & order those motors Troy:roll:

Have another esc question. If I am running two HH BL ESC's to my one Futaba receiver do I need to not have the power wire from the second ESC go to the receiver? Will this overload it or is this not a worry?
