Hi all,

I don't yet compete, I enjoy the build process, however I still want to aim for maximum capabilities while maintaining the scale look of my rig.

I understand portals are rare in the States but in Europe knowing some hardcore off-road 1:1 people over the years I've seen a few. Anyway the applicability to scale is not my question...

I have searched the forum and I get mixed information. I'm tempted to fit portals to my trail stomper. I'm aware of the increase in COG, but fully intend to reduce cog elsewhere, i.e. im going for axle clearance not chassis clearance.

Anyway, can anyone please recommend currently affordable options? I've heard the alloy axles on eBay are ok, least the non portals?
Are there any to avoid?
Non-portals used to be half the price they now are as little as a year ago? If what used to be 40 dollar axles are now 80 dollars a set, I think I might as well get 110 dollar portals? I'd welcome the extra gearing down...

Anyway, wondering what's best to do, I just have the standard axles from the trail stomper at the moment and fully expect to destroy them and the plastic driveshafts quick, so looking to use them on a more static model and upgrade asap, especially with a non standard build and three speed transmission.
Recommendations and links for axles and driveshafts, (and anything else I should consider) are most welcome thank you in advance. (I don't want to order anything completely useless after all. Considering upgrading the links as well.

Matthew
