Over the past couple years, I've switched most of my rigs over to 3d printed inserts. I have tried a few different brands. BAMF, 3 Brothers, YZZR, Squids...Their biggest advantage is that they tend to have better sidehill than foams and they also dont break down when they get wet. They do have their drawbacks. One of those is that they can be bouncy. Some are worse than others. The supports also can make some spots on the inserts harder than others. Foams are consistent all the way around.

Anyway, Dlux released their foams a couple weeks ago and I figured I'd give them a try since they are designed for the Iron Rock, which is one of the tires I am using this year. My comp truck weighs ~5.7lbs. I bought soft for the front, medium for the rear. They're a bit stiffer than I was expecting. I should have just bought soft all the way around. Maybe they will get a good bit softer when they break in or maybe they will release a super soft outer...Unfortunately, they are out of stock so I'll have to make due for now.

I'll post pics later today. Not sure on performance yet. Probably going to be a couple weeks until I get to try them out.

Product Details
Crown Foams

Excellent lateral stability for turning and side hilling.

Two stage foam with a three stage effect to absorb large impacts without bouncing.

Designed to use a softer outer foam for the ultimate in traction, with no loss of stability or predictability, and almost no loss of height.

Side hill like 3D printed inserts, with less bouncing. They conform perfectly to the terrain without the inconsistent paddle tire effect.

For 4.75" tall tires and 1.9" wheels.

Perfectly contoured to match Dlux 1.9 Ultra High Clearance wheels, works great with standard or narrow width. Tested to fit great with other wheel brands too.

Designed to perfectly fit Iron Rock 475 tires. Tested to also fit in JConcepts Tusk, Proline Super Swamper, and Proline Hyrax tires, meaning they will fit great in most 4.75" tall tires.

Available in three outer foam densities:
Soft ( red )
Medium ( Gold )
Firm (silver)

Sold in pairs.

I've never used the Ottsix foams. CI was my go to for a long time but it seems like the Innovations part of the name has stopped. These are a bit stiffer than I would like but they do seem like they will sidehill well. They're definitely not sliding around on these 2.2s I have them stretched over.

Very interesting. I'm a big fan of Dlux products, so we will check them out and maybe run them in a few of our tire reviews on the website. Right now we are chipping away at our 2.2" Goat review.

The Ottsix foams are very interesting to work with, and in our latest review with the JConcepts 1.9" Megalithic tires, they were excellent. I like them, but they ain't cheap.

I've tried the 3D printed foams, and as you pointed out, all suffer from spring-back on steep ascents. We no longer use any for our testing or general crawling.

I'll be following along to see your results.

You won't see me buying any Ottsix foams. Like Reefs, I avoid those products at all costs because of the owners.

The DLux foams are interesting though. I'm really curious to hear how they perform.

Why the Iron Rock tires over Proline TSL SX Super Swampers or something from JConcepts?

The tires look like a TN cut on old school 44 swampers. Back in the day before sticky offroad tires were a thing (or common at least). The rounded profile you showed definitely looks correct for a swamper. My 43s look just like that. Lol

The foams look interesting. Something different at least compared to other dual stage options. I'll probably give them a try sometime.

I've always heard that Ottsix guy is an ass but I have not had any experience with him.

Most of my crawling is competition. Always looking for an edge, especially something easy to change like tires & inserts. Tusks have been my go to tire for the past 2 years but there are conditions where other tires perform better. I carry Azteks, Iron Rocks, and Tusks on comp days and change out depending on course conditions and what is working that day. The Iron Rocks are great. Only time they lacked traction for me was a couple weeks ago but they were new tires, the rocks were wet and snowy, and the inserts were too stiff. Megs were the best tire that day. I've only got one local spot where Azteks excel.

Very interesting info. We are gonna get a set of the Iron Rock in our testing rotation. Just finished up the Megalithic testing.

Your pics make me miss crawling out there.

From what I've seen here, the Megs seem to start off good, then performance drops some, then when they're near bald they get better again. The guys here also rotate them to the opposite side periodically to even out the wear. Of course what works here may not work well there so YMMV.

We fooled with that a bit, reversing them, but the sandstone really hammered the lugs in that there wasn't much left when we flipped them. e were just late to that idea. That said, we had hours and hours on these, so I'm pleased with what kind of life we got out of the tires.

Yeah, we are spoiled for sure with the desert sandstone. Absolutely love this terrain. Can't wait to see what the Iron Rocks do out here.
