Delrin sheets

It's not something that I've really ever looked for. Would I just find that in your regular hardware store? I've been seeing how people have been moving their lower links to the inside of their chassis and I don't feel like slicing up my stock plate. I'd rather see if I can just make one out of 1/4" delrin.

No, look in your phone book under "plastics" chances are you have a plastics place near you.

Of course you can buy the stuff online to. Ebay has the best deals on stock.

Your local department store, or Target?

Many of the cutting boards you find in the Kitchen section are acetal plastic (Delrin), or a very similar material. I have picked up three 17x14x3/8 cutting boards at Target in the past two weeks for $13 a piece. I walked by the cutting boards in the local Wal-Mart today, and they had LOADS of different sizes, colors, and thicknesses.

You won't find acetal cutting boards anywhere. Cutting boards are primarily made of either HDPE (high density polyethylene), or UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) plastics. These can comparatively be just as slick, but not as strong as acetal, and not as easily machinable either. It tends to melt when cut with high speed blades and it doesn't take a thread very cleanly.

Bottom line is, spend a little bit more to get the strength, and the ease of fabrication. Me personally, I'd buy a 12"x12" .187" sheet of acetal for $20 before I'd spend the $13 on a cutting board from Wally. In the end, I am willing to spend that extra bit to make the process easier and know the product is stronger. Also, most cutting boards are thicker in relation to what you can get in acetal. The thinnest cutting boards I have seen readily availabe in the stores are usually .375"...and that is just too thick for me, but you'll probably end up needing the extra thickness in that cutting board, just to match the strength of the thinner acetal. does anyone know of any good australian suppliers of delrin/acetal sheet & rod? i'm based in sydney and im trying to get just under a square metre of the stuff for making bits and pieces and i've found one or two places that want to sell it to me for $300 for 2x1m sheets (ex postage)
