Crawler Innovations Pit Bull Rock Beast Tire review

Here are some picture of my Rock Beasts mounted up on my son's berg. This was one of three different bergs these tires were tested on. In all tests, we switched the complete wheels from crawler to crawler.

Here you can see how wide the tires are and the track width they give:

Even with the VP DH 585 front hubs, they get into the springs and links.

Here is an example of one of several lugs that have begun to tear away from the tire carcass.

Now that these pictures have been posted and the review done, the fun begins for me. Siping, grooving and narrowing of these tires is next:twisted:. More updates and pictures to come:mrgreen:.

I often wonder with tires such as these if they wouldn't perform better with a shorter tread. I know in playing with the ProLine 2.2 Chisels I got better results by shaving about 1/3 of the tread height. Before I did that, it seemed like the tall lugs would fold over under speed. I'm just wondering if the same would help these.

Excellent review Eddie!

I now wish I had read this before jumping on the first set I found on the board, but I will still give them a shot and if I don't like them they will go on my KOH rig.

Here we go. One pair of narrowed Rock Beast tires. I only narrowed the rear tires to start with so I would have the front to compare to for pictures. I will try and narrow the front pair tonight. I wanna try and test them this weekend. I did not sipe or groove the tires either. I want to test one thing at a time and see what improvement (if any) each modification makes.

Well I have put a few battery packs on these tires now that they have been narrowed. It made them worse. The stuff they sidehilled at the Children's Park with ease they now struggle with. So clearly the wide contact patch is what helped them to side hill so well at that park the first time.

I talked with Dezmoon about these tires quite a bit and have come to the conclusion they work better on heavier trucks. Dezmoon's bully is 7.5 pounds. My berg ranges between 5.12 and 6.2 depending on how many slugs I run in my VP wheels. He is also using 1.35 wide wheels while I am using 1 wide wheels.

So if your truck is heavier and using wider wheels you should have much better success with these tires. I don't think siping and grooving these tires is going to improve them for me. I still might try it, but I have been so busy with other custom tires that I have put these off to the side now after there lack luster performance for me once narrowed.

Once again, I just want to say Thank You to Pit Bull for letting me test them and for entering into the RC Rock Crawling genre. We need good vendors like them in the genre to help keep the sport growing."thumbsup"

Hey Eddie. Great job on the review. I have been running a set of pit bulls for the last couple of weeks. I have been running these on a local spot where we comp twice a year. It is a limestone breakwall on the shores of lake Erie in Buffalo NY. Several technical climbs. Some sidehills and a lot of breakovers. The rig is a V2 moonbuggy Berg. I am running. 7 v4 slw's in the rear and 1" v4 slw's in the front with 4.5 oz of weight added. I am compairing these to sedonas on dh pro comp full weight up front and. 5nt slw's on the rear. I have run this spot several times with the sedonas. I took to the course with the pit bulls. At this location the pitbulls did everything the sedonas did. I am running 5.5 double deuces in both sets of tires . There were spots that the pit bulls did have some trouble but they did make the climbs. There was only one spot they could not go that my sedonas made. I do like the tires. I am surprised that they worked on the 1" wheels I did run a wide offset in the front . And narrow offsets in the rear .
Well I ran them this past Sunday at our comp at this site. They worked well. They work better the more they break in. I had the best run on course 1. And a good run on course 2. I finished second.
At this location the pit bulls work well for me. I will be testing these soon at another location with similar rock. I will post up the results.
