Has anyone made their own paint masks by printing it on contact paper so you can cut out the design and stick it on ?

I am working on a very detailed precise paint job and need to print the design on a sticky removable paper.

Where is the source or name of it ?

Thank you
here's a little sample

liquid masking film is the best stuff out there. you just brush it on in layers on the inside. use a permanent marker on the outside of the body to show designs. i use extra fine colored permanent markers. that way i can use different colors to lay out the different colors. if you mess up the design in marker, rubbing alcohol will take the marker right off. once you have your design just use an exacto to cut out the designs on the inside and your ready to paint.

if your realy stuck on using the paper idea. most autobody paint supply stores or wherever you buy airbrush supplies should have low tack clear masking film. it can be used to make logos and stuff very easy but is darn near impossible to lay a large piece on the inside of a body with all the curves and contours. i used to use the stuff and had nothing but problems especially with the paint creeping or getting overspray under the masking. once i tried liquid asking film i never went back.

personally i use a light box, vinyl mask (i buy the stuff by the roll. waaaaayy less expensive then buying 8 1/2 X 11 sheets at the hobby shop) and a #11 blade.

ive used fisket film in the past but the main problem is that it is not tackey enough and it doesnt conform to the planes and hard lines of a body. frisket film has the regidity of regular printer paper. only works well on a flat surface

as for contact paper. its basically a giant sheet of scotch tape. again, doesnt really conform to hard lines but its too tackey and might leave residue

I picked up some 3m masking beige and cut it out but the scallops did not all come out perfect, close but not perfect enough for me. going to check in with (ElChupoCabre)

I asked my lhs, he had Badgers masing sheets and gave it to me for half price so I'll see if it prints in my printer, darn printer just went offline so I gota reboot. I though Macs were better than PC's haha

this tech tip page might be of help, although it might already be mentioned in this section
