CC01/XC Hummer H3 build

I'd still like to find a 1.55" and an 86-88mm tire just to weigh one against the other. The "Stock-size" wheel vs. the big-ole' wheel options. Just to see how they look.

I don't think any of the currently available 1.55s would really look right, and there's no 1.55" tire that's the same size as the BFGs, and I'd like to keep the tires at a scale-35".

these 1.5's might work on that body, painted black or chrome. They're 1.5 (not 1.55) mini cooper wheels, 12mm hex.

Also, regarding the tires...nothing in the 3.5" range without using scissors. let me know if you're interested in a set. I could make you a set of hybrid bfg-thrashers.

edit:
actually the Kawada Mish wheels for the mini cooper (also 1.5) wouldnt look bad on there:

I might actually look into that, Pablo. I do really enjoy the 2.0" wheels on there. They are big, but I think the H3's overall shape and design lends itself to big wheels, as long as they aren't gaudy and spinning.

I know the BFGs aren't the best option under most conditons, but they're the only option in 3.5", and I'd really like some softer treads.

Let me know what you'd think that'd cost, Pablo. Either with the resized Thrashers or DGs. I love the designs of both tires.

I agree. Looks like some wheels you'd actually see on a Hummer. Not offroad maybe, lol...but they do look good on there. I'd go with the CAC's. Plus, they're fantastic wheels. I owned a couple sets of his earlier designs and they're top notch.

I'll PM you.

After seeing so many of your other builds, I absolutely cannot wait to see what you do with the H3 body! "thumbsup"

I asked this to be moved to the CC-01 section of the forum. Thanks, Mod! Apperciate it!

Couple of little updates.

Rose the rear up a little, gave it that H3-trademark "Leaning-forward" look.

Also did some work on the roof rack. I thought it'd look better between the OEM racks.

And I did some inner wheel-well work on the front. With the headlights on, they shone back onto the front wheels and I didn't like that. This works much better.

Still lots to do! A scaler is like a cathedral. Expensive, time-consuming, and never really finished. "thumbsup"

Part of me's still trying to convince myself to do leafs on the back to complete that 1/1 look. That would be such a massive PITA, but it would look so cool.

I may still try it after all the rest of my plans for the build are brought to life! I've only seen 1 Leaf-sprung CC01, and it looked great.

I did a little more work tonight. Got the exhaust details and tow package put together. Cut it off of the stock chassis and put it back together on the body.

I also tried my hand at making rock sliders for the truck. Some bass tube I had lying around, but when I got them put together I realized the tubing diameter is way too small for the truck. Oh well. Good practice! I'll just pick up some bigger tubing.

That's it for now. Hope to be doing some lighting soon.

Thanks! Yup, still going at it. Working with a serious budget with this one, tho. Which is why it's taking so long. I think we're all working on a budget these days. I'm enjoying the challenge. Lol. "thumbsup"

This build's not dead! But my wallet is..Christmas has left her on the shelf for a bit as priorities take..well...priority! I may be getting some neat stuff for her on Santa's sleigh tho, so we'll see. 8)

Not a whole lot's been done recently, but I've got some new pictures.

I got some great news recently from this very forum. RC4WD seems to finally be fulfilling my wish of a nice, scale, 1.55" ID, 3.3" OD tire!

Finally! Those will definitely be going on the truck as soon as they're available!

I did get the truck out in the dirt again recently. It's been raining quite a bit here in Southern California and while it didn't stick around as mud for very long (Aww..) it made the normally soft sand hard enough to get some wheelin' done.

Recently, the streets in the housing community I call home were re-paved, so right next door to my house is a rather huge mountain of crumbled pavement. Most people think it's an eyesore. I think otherwise.

And then my memory card was full.

After I got in I took some post-run pictures. I think the mud on the tires definitely compliments the truck.

That's it for now! Hopefully RC4WD will get those tires thru and I can actually have some better-then-BFG tires! Tho I'll miss the 20s. Lol. Maybe I'll use those on an upcomming H2 build.

Okay, so I said I was going to do it and I wanted to see if I could, and it could be the first on a crawler.

Front traction control to replace the locked front diff.

lsd.jpg

:) Okay, so it's not fancy computerized electronic traction control like the 1:1 rig, but it's still traction control. And it works extremely well. The results surprised the hell out of me. Gives power to the "stuck" wheel nearly as well as the locked diff does, while not sacrificing the turning radios.

Keeper.

Bad picture, I know. I couldn't find my primary camera s I had to pull out an old secondary with no flash or zoom.

hi

did you put a ball bearing on that diff??? im just curious

thanks.

Nope. What I did was put 2 springs to push the smaller gears more firmly against the larger output gears, giving a ton of rolling resistance, keeping the diff semi-locked, while acting like a positraction/limited slip differential.

It works well!
