CC01 Front suspension swap

I see the suspension parts are HPI...but what about the drivetrain parts? I see above you said you were using the HPI axles w/ Tamiya FF01 bones, but then someone asked and you said no? Am I missing something?

190mm arms, I assume they are from the the HPI Sprint

I know they are 190mm arms but actually how wide is it now from hex to hex?
Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't the FF01 dogbones 45mm?
Would these CVD's work? 44mm.

I'll be trying this swap when my CC01 finally comes in the mail.
Great looking build by the way!

Sorry for the confusion - yes, that is the combo installed currently.

I got the HPI parts in a parts lot...I'm not sure if they are Sprint (190mm) or Nitro RS4 (200mm) arms. I THINK they are Sprint parts...I ordered some aluminum rear arms so I'll find out for sure I guess.

Good question. Very close to stock...I'll have to measure next time I have it apart.

No worries. I found the arms I think. Looks like they are part number 85056. I ordered some to try this mod out.

What shocks are you running? I see most of your early pictures have stock shocks in them, but your newest pictures have what look like RC4WD Kings or something along those lines. How long are they? Did you run them to get a more scale look or more travel or more tire clearance at full lock or?

I've been reseaching also...you can use 3racing d3 c-hubs, toe-blocks, and a ultra wide axles to gain more steering on the S2 they have 8* of caster so i don't know if that's good for bumpsteer or not..but i think it is...i don't know if that's any good info for us or not as i haven't tried it yet....but plan on it

Aluminum arms came in - definitely not Sprint rear arms. I'm not sure where they came from. Doing some digging, they look like RS4-3 Nitro arms (HPI85030) - now off to track some aluminum versions of those...

On a good note, with warm weather here finally got some painting done. Goodbye awful orange!

Still needs some details, but sooooooo glad to see that orange go.

I just take the third diff gear and cram it inbetween the other 2. Very common mod and works great.

I'd post pics, but photobucket ate them.

funnier I actually DON'T have a Nitro RS3.... but now knowing WHAT the Arms are, is going to be a massive help in making my lowly CC-01 a considerably more capable Rig!!! "thumbsup"
I've ALWAYS loved Tamiya. However, I really questioned their use of VERY Short A-Arms.... I suppose it was for a more Scale Wheel Track. BUT, the HPI setup you've come up with doesn't look that much wider!

The sad part is - in the past, I've coughed up BUKU BUCKS to tighten up the front end. I'd basically be throwing most of it in the Bin to do this.....
But after spending almost two YEARS, finally getting ALL of the Slop out of the Steering, especially the Bellcrank.... This definitely looks like it makes the whole Suspension Dialed In - like it SHOULD have been!!

Has ANYONE figured out a decent CVD Front Stub Shafts?? I'm kinda spoiled by the Yeah! Racing stock CVDs.

What is everyone using to lock the diffs?

Used the Stock Tamiya Locker in the Rear....
Up Front, I sealed the Diff as best as I could, and filled it with Associated ONE MILLION cst Diff Lube. It's SO THICK, plus I shimmed either side of the Diff Housing - that it now acts very much like a Posi Diff!!! "thumbsup" "thumbsup"

I studied the post and made some changes,This is the part for my front suspension:
SUSPENSION ARM SET:hpi 85056 rear
c-hub:tamiya op-1031 54031 for ta05-ver2
KNUCKLES: Eagle Modle for ta05-ver2
cvd: 3-racing 44mm cvd for tamiya TRF 417 TA05...
I think On-Road Models have a larger angle cvd
