Cat likely to get some new claws and under pinnings.

Hey all. been running the RTR Axe for about a month. Only thing I have done is last time before I went out, I took the radio out of stock settings. Adjusted the bec to 2s mode (7.4v) for the steering servo (422hdv2 Reefs).

The shocks need to be gone through and filled & bled properly so they work better. The fronts were not too bad, but the rears need some love. So Ill redo all four with some TLR 35w (37.5 actually).

While checking the suspension, articulation and compression and how things were designed, and then setup from factory, The front end would shift a bit (towards Passenger side) upon near full compression of the suspension.
Noticed both the Pan Hard bar, and the Steering bar when in full compression location, pushed the front axle out toward the passenger side about 1.5mm.

This is a small oversight in design, though there is only so much that can be done. But there is somethings that can be done to help this issue if you notice it on yours.

I took both ends off the pan hard bar and shaved just about a mm off each end, then put them back on. That took out nearly all of the lash when the suspension is in full compression position. Still getting about .5mm of side lash, so I will look a bit closer and see if I need to trim the pan hard ends a bit more, or hit the steering ends for a mm in total.
Thinking its the Steering that will needs bit more tweaking. So when I figure it out, and get it setup, I'll make a follow up for those noting the same issue and would like to remove as much/all of the lash you can.

But basically shaving just a little bit off each end should do the trick.


Also, I built up an DDS Kit as a leafer, so I have the SSD Ti Links, pan hard, steering links for it available. So I will likey use the Pan Hard and Steering Link and see fi they work a bit better than the stock straight pan hard and steering link on the Axe out of the box.

One of these two solutions will take care of that bit of axle lash under full compression.

The Leafer SSD Build also isn't using the stock aluminum SSD Pan hard mount. So that will likely end up on the Axe as well.

I bought some 1.9 RC4WD Wagon Wheels and a set of RC4WD Goodyear Wranglers for the leafer build, but they are too big a tire. I am going for a class 1 full scale rig, so the 1.9s look like 35s. lol not stock wranglers on a 76 Blazer. lol So I Ordered 1.55s fo it, so will use the 1.9s on the Cat as well. The Stock tires on the Cat are pretty good for Trailing really. But we all know the issue with those foams in the cold. They are still a bit too stiff when its 80 out too. lol So the Cat will get some new claws also.

Probably do this over the next week, As my to do list in the 1:1 world just got a bit longer.

Couple pics of some mud time we got in a week or so ago in the old crawler area we setup in 2010. Cleaned it up and expanded for more play area.
