Well I've been working on this for the past couple weeks and posting the progression from concept to reality over on the ASTR Facebook page and finally figured I would put it up here for everyone to enjoy. Since our real scale comp season kicks off later this month I decided it was time to build a serious contender and step away from my tamiya m1025 as my c1 rig. After staring at my box of mrc parts it was obvious what I had to do. I needed to build a cool rig using said mrc parts. So I decided what is cooler than a 40's era Willys mb/cj2a. After searching for a couple days I stumbled across "Rango" on Pirate4x4. It was perfect so I got to work.

Specs:
full custom body (26ga and 18ga steel)
Novak mongoose crawler system
1.55 Pit bull growlers on vanquish 8-hole shooters
Mrc axles and transmission
Rick Grimes driving
Caged
Sliders
Sawback leaf springs (spring under configuration)
Hand built chassis and mounts
3 racing winch w/ rc4wd controller
Cms w/ stock yeti tactic servo
CrawlerDad 5"v2 LED light bar
8.5" wb. 7" overall width. Body is 6" wide
Killer 75°+ approach and departure angles
Gonna hurt to see its first tumble. But it adds character to it. Can't stay perfect forever.

I'll let the pics tell the story now.

Thank you. I gotta get it rtr by Jan 18. Should have more progress tonight once I get the trans mounted.

Well finally got around to mounting the trans. Had to figure out the best location for it w/o a tcase. This will work and be about as scale as I can looking at the "Rango" build thread on pirate 4x4.

Well this is the last of the progress for tonight. Cutting 18ga w/ tin snips is tiring. At least I have my hood and windshield frame built. Still got a lot of work to do but at least it's almost ready for its test run and coating.

Made a lot of progress today. Got the chassis finished. Also got the hood, cowl, dash, and windshield frame on and finished. Fenders are cut and ready to install. All that remains is firewall and trans tunnel. Cage and seats are in the works as well.

Looking good....I've wheeled with the guy who owns the real one. Pretty sweet sleeper jeep and a nice guy.

Very nice so far! Are you doing the MB or the cj? I know your top pics are of an MB. My dad has a '52 M38/cj2(b) I might can get you some pics of.
