With the trail finder 2 coming close to being done, update soon for that, I figured I’d do a fairly quick build on my rs4 sport 3 flux.

I’ve had the car for almost a year now but it’s been mostly stock for that time until more parts came in with more on the way. Anyways here is the car as it sits right now:

Before I ever ran the car I replaced the rx with a 2 channel airtronics receiver. The first time I ran it was on 3s, and I have to admit that I almost sold the car right after that first run. For having a 4000kv motor stock on 3s it was quite slow, I’ve ran some pretty quick on road cars with similar setups and they would’ve put this thing to shame.

After doing some research I found that exotek racing made a lightened driveshaft as well as adjustable camber links so I ordered them right away. The next run, the car was completely different! It was a lot faster going up and down the street but didn’t have a lot of traction at slower speeds, probably because of the slick tires.

Only other things replaced have been 2 spur gears and the stock servo deciding to call it quits early on. Now it’s got a savox 1251 with a tlr horn.

Anyways now onto the reason why I started this thread. Since the lightened exotek driveshaft made such a huge difference with the car I figured why not go full exotek parts for the drivetrain since they are all lighter than stock? So I am! I picked up 2 sets of the clamping wheel hex’s to get rid of the stock plastic ones, also the spur gear mount as well as 2 sets of the ring gears. I did not however go with the spool as I want to see how it does with these parts first and then maybe get one for the front.

There are a few more parts coming this week so I’ll update the thread when they all get here.

she's a beast... I've been tempted to build an on-road grip monster, I've only had drifters lol
i never would have guessed about a spool in the front?
do they have front and rear ball diffs available for this? seems the better option and allows some adjustability. i have a set for the TT01, never used em just locked the stock diffs with epoxy lol

looking forward to updates with this thread too!

the sport 3 flux comes with gear diffs front and rear.

The full blown race bread onroad cars seam to always have a spool up front and a ball diff in the rear

Anyways the parts came in for the car and I will hopefully be able to paint the new body this weekend although it is supposed to rain

I LOVE the new Hoonicorn that's out. Don't see too many of the Sport 3's out there. Not sure why, looks like a solid car.

i love the fact hoonigan offers 1:10 scale decals at the webstore. and yes the hoonicorn body is full of win. too bad they cant keep up with the liveries though lol

c0bra is the new body for this a surprise too? damn these on-road threads are scaring the crap out of my wallet haha

I've been wanting to pick up one of these or the Hoonicorn up.... but I can't justify the cost over a crawler.

Jato they look like something from HPI... they are rather meaty though, right? i thought they were foams at first!

soze for $260 you can get an RTR sport 3 either bmw or mustang body. that's not bad! or a the vaterra V100 is only $240. slightly cheaper than most RTR crawlers! sorry for playing devils advocate over here lol

I'm only interested in the Hoonicorn as far as the RTR bodies go. I want the Porsche body, but I don't like the RTR implementation. I'd probably have to buy that body and paint it myself.

Probably because these cars desperately need the center drive shaft replaced with the exotek one.

Anyways jato the wheels and tires on the Porsche are the same rtr ones that came with it and are needed since the body is extra wide.

The body is a protoform mustang body as I’m building this car to be a pissed off vta. Meaning it’s getting a vta legal body with vta wheels and tires but it’s getting a motor that is beyond faster than a 25.5t

I got the body painted. It’s duratrax metallic blue backed with duratrax basic black.

I need to get front body posts as these are way to short even though they weren’t trimmed

Sick!

Btw hpi donated a car for the raffle at proline by the fire.

Yeah. A FRIGGIN HOONICORN.
i was drooling while they called out the numbers... out of all 30 tickets i won jack diddly. Oh well.

Your mustang looks wicked already. I dig it!

I ran the car on Sunday on 3s without the body. The car has ridiculous acceleration but doesn’t really go all that fast.

With picking up a tc6.1 the other day for fairly cheap, this car is going to go in a different direction along with my tc4. Meaning both cars are going to be converted to be legal for usvta racing.

From what I’ve read these cars are supposed to be fairly well set up for vta from hpi as far as gearing is concerned

Having just scored yet another on road car.... this time a xray t4 2016, I’m going to regear this car to get a faster top speed. I’m not going for anything ridiculous though.
