Boston Crawlers will be hosting our 4th annual Ultra4 style race, Boston’s King of the Coast 2013 on October 5th.
39755_l.jpg

This is a rock race designed around the legendary King of the Hammers ultra4 race. It will be held at Halibut Point, in Rockport MA (GPS to 5 Gott Ave). Registration will begin at 11:30 with the race beginning at high Noon.

This event is open to all competitors, 2.2, scalers, and misc. Past events have had included rigs from 2.2 comp rigs, wraiths, capable 1.9 scalers, to custom one-off rock race machines. Just be sure your rig complies with the regulations, and most importantly have fun with it.

This years race will be a sprint down the "beach" and back, with checkpoints, but no gates. Drivers will be timed, and the fastest rig takes the cake.

The rules are posted below but the highlights are:

- This is an unlimited event. Wheeled vehicles with a track width no greater than 16"
- Terrain will be varied, mostly over rock, and trails.
- Vehicles should be capable of crawling. A capable 1.9 scaler can make it through this course but it may struggle in a few sections.

This is a Free event! there is no entry fee but parking is $2 per car (a meager fee for how cool this place is).
Prizes will be given out to the top 3 drivers, lowest time wins. We will also have a bunch of giveaways for the drivers. Many thanks to all our sponsors: Castle Creations, Axial and Horizon Hobby.

The location and course map for this event are posted below. Feel free to go check out the course ahead of time if you like. No pre-running will be allowed the day of the event (unless you manage to get there before us "thumbsup" ), but the course will be open for participants to walk before registration.

See you on Race Day! "thumbsup"

BC’s King of the Crawlers 2013
OFFICIAL RULES! (there are a few but it is Lots of Fun)

Vehicle specifications:

Maximum of 16" track width
No gas or nitro power. Electric only
Must be wheel/tire powered. No tank treads, robot legs, hovercraft, etc.
Any suspension, chassis, body, drivetrain, wheel/tire combo can be used.
Any driver using a non spread spectrum radio/receiver has to list their frequency when registering.

Must follow vehicle via foot. No bicycles, 4 wheelers, helicopters, etc.
All on course technical support has to be done by the driver. No repair teams on course.
All repairs must be completed by the driver on course i.e. no returning to starting pit.
On course, drivers are not allowed to climb or jump from any object higher than waist level (for your own safety)
(Vehicles are unlimited).

Course layout:

~.5 mile point to point race. Terrain varies from loose dirt/gravel to novice level 2.2 comp crawling terrain.
2 Drivers will leave side by side in 30 second intervals and will all be racing on the course at the same time.
If a driver is not in the starting grid for his/her starting time they will be moved to the end of the order and receive a 30 second time penalty.
Drivers must go around the checkpoint at the far end of the course and return across the finish line.

Driving rules:

This is purely based on time unlike a 2.2 crawler competition.
The driver must follow his/her vehicle throughout the course.
Reversing does not accrue any points or penalties.
If a truck flips and can not right itself, a roll over can be administered by the driver.
If a truck becomes stuck and can not right itself or be flipped the vehicle can be re-positioned, but must be placed in such a way that no forward progress is made. Example: if a truck becomes wedged between a rock, the driver can remove the truck and place it back on the course as long as it has not made forward progress.

With all drivers/vehicles on course vehicle to vehicle contact is allowed/expected (see list of examples).
Any driver making malicious vehicle to vehicle contact or driver to driver contact will be disqualified from the race. (See list of examples).

Contact examples:

OK:
Normal racing bumping/rubbing is allowed. Example: side of the vehicle to side of the vehicle, light front to back contact.
Bumping of a slower vehicle by a faster vehicle is allowed if slower vehicle does not yield to the faster vehicle aka "nerfing".
Driving over a stuck vehicle is allowed.

Not OK:
Malicious bumping/ramming of a vehicle to veer a vehicle off course.
Example: T-boning another vehicle so it flips or crashes or forcing a vehicle off course.

Intentionally contacting another driver. Example: Shoving another driver out of the way.

Contacting any driver or anyone else on course is acceptable for aiding/safety purposes. Example: if someone is falling/slipping.
Any contact to spectators and other people on course for anything other than aid is a DNF. This rule is in place because the course will be open to the public while it is run. We do not want any contact of vehicles or drivers to hikers or innocent bystanders.

This event is Rain or Shine (with the exception of Extreme weather) please plan and dress accordingly.

It may seem like a lot of rules but they are all here to ensure everyone has a fun and safe time.

Please post any questions.

looks great. going to try and clear my schedule so i can attend.

has me wondering whether i should run one of my comp crawlers or my twin hammer. hmmm....

Hope you can make it Jeff. I say you bring Both.

I played with my hammers rig there and it did ok. Definitely fun to point and shoot it over the larger features, but was tricky in the tighter spots.

Bring a buddy and give him the hammers and you run your 2.2?

Well I was going to be able to make this event and I was looking forward to it.
Butt my mother planned a memorial for my grandmother that day at 2:30 .. :x .so much for plans on coming up to this one . maybe with any luck this will be moved to the 6th ;)"thumbsup"

Chris is thinking about the winter series and it is looking good so far.

That's too bad that you can't come Dan. Hopefully we will see you at a few winter events.

For the rest of you that are coming we are sweetening the pot.

We will be creating five bounty gates to test your skill. Pay $2 to get a crack at bounty gate. You will two minutes to complete it. The person who completes it in the lowest time wins the money for that gate.

See you all Saturday.

Brian, the wife and kids may be tagging along. Could you remind me how far of a walk it is from parking to the course?

It is a easy give minutes walk down the path. There is also rest rooms and a grassy area they could hang out at.

Looks like it might rain ;) I guess you have to move it to Sunday or next weekend so I can go ;) ...
Have fun guys I wish I could make it.

Hope everyone is ready for this great race tomorrow. It should be a ton of fun and a lot different from years prior. Be sure to bring a few bucks if you want to participate in the bounty gates.

Accuweather claims that the rain will be done by Noon.

The plan is to have this event even if there is a little rain. If the weather changes dramatically we will discuss postponing it to Sunday (which doesn't look a great deal better)

To reiterate, the current plan is still for SATURDAY.

If there is no posting by 9am tomorrow then there is no delay.

I'm still in but the family is going to stay home. I'll check around 9am to make sure we are still on.

Got a cople of them Jslick.

We usually have my friend photograph the race but this year he was unable to make it last minute.

Here are a couple snaps from the cell phone. Going to take a peak at the go pro strapped to the back of the twin hammers later on tonight.

Trucks on the starting grid, ready for the mass start.
