In the twist and turns our lives take we are often attached to one another by a note or phone call here and there and in recent days an email or Facebook post. In ways these things are nice and keep us in touch so that we do not lose each other or become more strangers than friends. I fear these mediums have caused us to become like ATM,s or pay at the pump friends. No longer do we go inside to pay and get to know the cashier, no longer do we go in the bank and get to know the tellers. That is something I miss. I used to know everyone down Hwy 10 where I grew up and more so they knew me by name or by my family. I guess the older I get the more I long for simpler times where we weren't inconvenienced by someone stopping by or calling us in the evenings or saying they would be in town 'can we grab lunch'. I get invites from different ones, some of you, to stop by and visit or share a meal and I decline more often than not because I am too busy. Too busy for life it would seem, chasing our tails as though we would catch it sooner or later. Then something stops you dead in your tracks and you begin to think where has the time gone, the year, and worse, the years.

We have great intentions, going fishing or hunting with someone, taking a trip to see someone, stopping by to see someone from our past who is sick, stopping in to visit with a friends parents or grandparents, sitting down to talk to our spouses, kids, parents. But...time evades us and then we find ourselves at a graveside saying goodbye to someone we can only hope knew our love for them, hope they knew we thought of them often. We read an obituary of someone we went to school with, went to church with, someone we worked with years ago. We look in the mirror and see time is catching up with us as well. Gray hair, wrinkles, our chest muscles turning into upper belly flab, our waist not really having a starting or stopping point. My eyes are getting weak, my hearing is pretty much shot, I finally made it where I could run 3 miles and now haven't ran since daylight savings time changed so I might make a mile if I run till I pass out.

Some things we can't stop, some things we can. Some things we can do out of will power and some out of desire. I am sorry if I haven't called, haven't just dropped a line to say high in a while. I do think of you from time to time, sometimes daily and when I do I say a prayer. I don't pray like I used too, I need to change that too. I guess as I reflect back on this year I see opportunities I have missed to just talk, just drop a note, just check in with you and see how you are, it is my loss that can never be regained. Some of you have been an ear when I needed one, some of you I have asked to say a prayer for me or someone I care about and I know you have, you are that kind of person. Some of you have shared needs with me and asked me to pray, I thank you for that trust and I have asked of God on your behalf. We never know where our road will lead, what twist it may take but I hope you know there are people who still are your friend, still hoping and praying for you even if they haven't called or dropped a line in a while.

With all that rambling said I hope you are well, healthy and happy. I hope your days are bright and your nights peaceful. I hope in the midst of life that we can find time to simply talk more in the coming year. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.
