Hey guys. I just bought a Slash and I am wondering what the best basher brushess system will be?

would the sidewinder and 5700 be alot better than a velenion system? also i noticed you can only run the sidewinder on a 2s max.

what is the max on a velinion?

I have the Velineon system in my Slash. I can run 3s on it. The main difference (other than volts) is that the Veleneon system is a 3500kv motor, the Sidewinder setup you are looking at is a 5700kv.

So at nominal voltage, the Veleneon system on 3s ~ 38850 rpm, 5700 Sidewinder on 2s (7.2v) ~ 41040 rpm. So relatively close in speed, but amp draw is higher in the Sidewinder system so your batteries will need to be able to take it.

Dont own a Mamba, but I do have the Vxl system in my slash. I have friends that have the 5700 system and they are close as far as speed goes. I've heard that as far as bashing goes, castle is a little more finicky as far as motor temps goes and overheating but I dont own one so.. I know i've run all types of batterys on mine and never had a problem.

sidewinder definatly, vxl owers will say there close cause the bought the wrong system. My sidewinder dogs my friend vxl and he is on lipo and I run 8 cell nimh. Another guy I know runs the hpi flux kit and It is identical to the sidewinder.

Ive ran both in my slash. I actually ran the thing today lol. I went with the vxl first then mamba 5700. Now I am back to the vxl system. I personally think the vxl is more than enough in the slash. The 5700 ate my batteries like mad but I can get decent runtimes and amazing power with the vxl system. The esc is actuall good too. It is up to 3 cells and can run sensored or sensorless motors too. It has lvc but it is a known problem with them that they may not work right. Mine cuts off too soon. I now just use a timer and check it out. I've grown pretty close to the truck and can tell when it's time to quit the lipo lol.

That is my experience with the VXL as well. Good power, versatile, and for me very reliable. The LVC does trip early. I think it is just too sensitive. When my pack is close, if I punch the throttle, the volts will dip for a fraction of a second and trips the LVC. If I reset the ESC and ease up on the throttle, I can go to full throttle without hitting the LVC. I borrowed one the Castle 4600's for a weekend to see if I liked it. It was OK, good power, great speed. Got very hot and I worry that over time it will wear out the magnets. Also, it did suck the juice out of the pack really fast.

I have run both. I noticed the VXL system (ESC, and motor) seemed to run slightly cooler than my Mamba 5700 system in the same trucks, all on 2s LiPo. The VXL will handle up to 3s LiPo.
The VXL's ESC tends to hit the LVC a little early, but that system may be better for general bashing than the Castle 5700.
I felt I could run my VXL longer before it got hot (around 180).
The 5700 seems to run a little warmer than my Velineon and my 4600 did.
You can run 3s LiPo on the Sidewinder, but with the 4600kv motor only.
A Sidewinder 5700 will blow the VXL off the map once you set-up the ESC with the link, and gear it accordingly.
I think if you want something for bashing, go with the VXL, or the Sidewinder with a 4600kv.
You could also use a Velineon motor on a Castle ESC. That's a good basher combo.
Either way, you can run longer than the 5700 before you get warm.
If you want warp speed, and more power than you can handle, then go for a Mamba Max 5700.

I have both a VXL and a sidewinder 4600.

i prefer to run the VXL in the slash b/c it's water resistant "thumbsup"

i run them both on 3s A123's

I can get either to run the same speed and to do wheelies off the line without over heating but only if I change pinions, (vxl 25T, 4600 20T)

5700 is too much IMO unless you already have a bunch of good 7 cell or 8 cell packs.

I have run the hell out of my Slash with MM 4600,5700,6900,7700,and the vxl,the best set up for me is MM speed control and vxl motor, runs coolest, runs fast(on 3s),super reliable,I have killed a 5700 and this past weekend a 4600.I have been mostly bashing and running a ton in sand lately, the vxl motor always stays pretty cool and being able to program the cc esc is bonus points in my book!

I run the Novak Havoc system in my slash . It only takes up to a 2cell lipo but that is almost too much power for me anyways. Haven't had any issues with it.

I am running a MM, CC BEC, 3S lipo, and a 4600 Castle motor. My gearing is 15 tooth pinion and 90 spur. I am bashing in the yard on 3 acres. My motor temps are a pain, it runs 170 which is too high for my taste. I really wish the motor would run cooler. The ESC and Lipo always stay around 120 but the motor is always 150 - 170. I wish I would have gone with a lower KV for improved torque and hopefully lower motor temps. I am getting about 20 minutes easy of run time with a 3000mah 3S lipo.

Im running a MM 7700 in one of my slashes and a VXL in my other both on Venom 5000 2s. While the 7700 has tons of power, I prefer running the VXL since it is controlable. I also Have a Sidewinder 4600 with a 3s, but have yet to run it in anything.

I'd have to agreee w/ most everybody else. I've run the MM/VXL and the sidewinder/4600. The sw/4600 overheats way too easily whereas the mm/vxl ran noticably cooler. This was on stock gearing, btw. Speed was comparable on both systems. The VXL has a longer armature which I've read makes it run cooler.. my 2 cents.

I can promise you that the 5700 and Veleneon systems are no where near close to each other in speed. I ran my 5700 (which was geared down) next to a Veleneon system and it was MUCH faster. The 5700 is too much motor for that truck. I have since downgraded to a 4300kV motor. If you are set on a Castle motor, I would go with the 4600/Sidewinder combo.

I have to say VXL
Runs cooler, plenty of torque and power in a slash.

or
run a VXL motor and Mamba Max ESC

I don't care for the castle motors, to many issues. I just love my Mamba Max I won't buy the motors.

Did you even look at what I wrote or did you just skim it? 3s on Velenion, 2s on 5700... Close in speed. 2000rpm is what, 2 or 3 mph different at the wheels?

happy B-day to me

I talked to Double Dub today and i am going to follow his suggestion with the MM and VXl motor. if you price it out it is about 6 dollars different (stormer). i am going with the better set up first. why get an ESC that you know you will want to replace if the price is the same? (thats the question i asked myself)

i plan on picking up the slash today or tomorrow (if LHS has it in stock, hope hope hope) and go 7 cells. then BL and big lipo!!!
