Berg V3 Opinions

Hey guys, just want some quick opinions. I got a guy close by selling a V3 2.2 kit. Chassis, Wheels, Axels. Brand New, never been used, for $160. This seems like a sweet deal and I really want to get into a moa crawler. I don't have any ambition to compete right now and just want to get out and crawl on some rocks.

Is this worth it?

For that price I say go for it. I started out with the Enroute Berg V3 and had a blast with it. Quality was ok, not the greatest universals in the front but who cares. Buy the best electronics you can, because after you get addicted you will want something better chassis and axle wise. If I'm right there are not many aftermarket parts available for the V3, but if you have the machining experience you can do your own mods. If it's $160 brand new in the box that's a good gateway crawler to start your addiction with.
I had a blast with mine and learned all the basics with it. So with some good electronics, wheels,and tires you should be able to get started.
Do you know anyone else with a MOA crawler in your area?

Metric pinions too I think, I don't remember if the kit came with those. What radio do you have?

I have a hacked Turnigy 9X i read can be programmed for dig. But I think I'd like to get a GT3B and hack it. Triggers make more sense to me with cars

Theres another local guy selling is RTR v1 Berg, venom 50t motors, 2 takin fx, 2 lipos, DX6 controller, and a 7950 for $550. Is that a better deal?

Are the v1's the only aluminum/grey colored axles? From pictures, looks like v2 & 3 are black, right?

the silver are the v1s, the v2 and v3 are black with the v2 having an aluminum chassis
and the v3 a carbon chassis.

those are not the stock shocks or wheels on the v1 you pictured. it does seem to have some sort
of hi clearance steering/servo mount but it is hard to tell

they all suffer from inadequate steering. going to 4wheelsteering will help but there has been a LOT of work
on developing the berg1s. check out dluxfab.com for steering options as well as delrin and aluminum light weight
tubes and universal axles and killer knuckles and lightened gears and hardened gears and ........ hahahaha

the v1 deal is interesting since I agree about the stick radio and those escs are pretty good, average motors but good
enough for starters. escs are about 90 each, motors about 30 each, servo about 60, so that is about 300 dollars
the dx6 about 120 used, which makes the kit about 130. not bad looked at in that light.

if you want to tinker and improve. the berg1 will be easier since upgrades are there.
if you do not like the dx6 you can sell it ( I would buy it, I'm looking for one)

interesting choices. get both and have an unique shelf queen plus a good crawler.

Well the pictures I provided are what I thought was the Berg v1. Is it not? I thought in the front facing view, they look like v1's.

If you do get the v3 it uses an 11t pinion in 0.6mod.

The motor has a fixed mounting location, so you can only use 11t

Yes. A V1 berg is always the better deal. Everything is upgradeable so you can grow with it. With the V3 your stuck with what you get. I tried that with the Bully and I finally gave up and went with Dlux Superlite's. They are based of berg V1 axles so you could upgrade to them later if you get into crawling more. The V1's will hold their value a lot better also incase you want to sell them later.

The one in the picture has the old CKRC steering on it.

OK, Thanks guys. I was worried he maybe had a combo of v1 rear and a v2/3 front axle cause the color seemed different. Hopefully he can hold on to it a bit longer while I convince the wife to let me go all in on it. I will probably sell off the controller to make back some money since I have a 9x already.

If that...

The problem with buying a crawler these days is that you need to predict where youre going to end up.

If youre going to end up being satisfied with something very basic, the Berg above or a Bully2 is hard to beat.

If youre going to end up upgrading it and really enjoying the hobby to the fullest, buying the car above, the V3 or a Bully 2 is going to cost you much more than just spending the money up front.

Are you saying the truck in the pictures with a DX6 isnt worth $550?

Right now, I just want to get started in crawling. If I get insanely hooked and have to compete, I'm sure I'll have no problem spending the money to upgrade or buy a new rig. I just want to know if this will be a good introduction.
