Axial Simple LED Kit- too many LEDs!

Hey guys, I recently installed Axial's Simple LED Kit and noticed that, despite there being only two light holes in the stock bumper, Axial has included four front facing LEDs.

How can I remove the extra two LEDs?

As a note, it would appear that they are in series (e.g. cutting one off will disable the entire LED setup).

What have you guys done?
 
one port is for 4 white lights...
and the other is for the 2 red rear lights.

the voltage is not adjustable that I know.

I can't say for sure if two lights can replace the four
as I've not tried that myself.

Two will likely work... but might net too much voltage
be brighter... but burn out prematurely.
But would be dependent on how much voltage
the led's can handle.

Using some resistors on the two led's could reduce the voltage
and insure they don't get too much juice.
 
I would use the spare pair of lights as rock lights to light up the ground around your tires. Or buy some buckets and make fog lights. I'm starting my lighting project tonight.
 
It should be OK to run two lights instead of four or five. I wondered about this myself recently and acquired some empirical data on the AX24257 kit as I do not know much about electronics:<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Voltage from controller ports without load – 15.2 V and 4.94 – lower V for tail lights<o:p></o:p>
I hooked up various numbers of white LED’s in series to the high V port and measured the voltages:<o:p></o:p>

2 LED’s – 6.2 V<o:p></o:p>
3 LED’s – 9.2 V<o:p></o:p>
4 LED’s – 12.1 V<o:p></o:p>
5 LED’s – 15.x V (didn’t do this – extrapolated)<o:p></o:p>

It appears that the controller detects the number of LED’s and regulates the voltage. The voltage across individual LED’s was 3 V in all cases so there is no overvoltage. Unless I am missing something fundamental here, any number of LED’s up to five should be fine.

Without owning or using the Axial simple light controller, based on your experiment it sounds like a constant current source. If this is the case, the OP should be ok.
 
I've broken one of the leads on the second set, and the other lights were fine. Should be good to cut off the second set.

I would say get same additional light buckets as well - why not?
 
You can run just 2 front led's with the Axial controller if you want to, I have done it.

Does Axial sell a set of only two LEDs? I have checked and them seem to only offer them in sets of five.

The 4 white are 2 for bumper and 2 for headlights. You'll need buckets to install headlights.

If they are attached to the shell (as the headlights) then how would I remove the shell when changing the battery/working on the car?
 
I have the NVS. I pull pins and roll body to side to change battery (wires still connected to control unit).
I've thought about soldering in plugs of some sort but haven't decided to do it yet.
If I need to remove body to work on it, I have to unplug control unit.
