are all sensored brushless motors work with any sensored esc?

Novak puts a resistor in their crawler motors...

I cant remember the specifics but I bet if you searched on here a little bit you could find the details.

I've been searching but haven't found the answer yet. I'll keep trying.

No they will not....Novak's "crawler" brushless ESCs only like Novak motors. SMR is right they put a resistor (or the like) in their motors to tell the esc to go into crawler mode (or something like that)...
If you use another manufacturers motor with a Novak Crawler esc it will turn it back into a normal Novak brushless esc (i think its a Havoc or something). So you get no drag brake etc.
There has been a few discussions about it in the past...But i didn't turn anything up using the search either. :???:

However, Novak's motors seem to work fine on other manufacturers ESCs.
I've got a mate running a 18.5 Novak with a MMP & no issues that he's reported thus far.

I appreciate the input. I just posted the question in the official novak thread to see if they can provide additional details.

MOTOR COMPATIBILITY

The Goat 3S ESC is compatible with Novak’s Ballistic Crawler Brushless Motors -- 18.5T (#3618) and 21.5T (#3619), Crawler 13.5T Brushless Motor (#3414), Crawler 18.5 and 21.5 Brushless Motors (#3419 & #3420), and the Forty-Five and Fifty-Five Crawler Brushed Motors (#3545 & # 3555). But the versatility doesn’t end there, attach a Novak SS Pro or Ballistic Spec Brushless Motor and the Goat 3S will operate the same as Novak’s speedy Havoc 3S with forward, brake and reverse settings.

Any motor used must have Thermal Overload Protection, which protects the system from overheating and damage. In fact, the ESC will only operate with brushless motors that have built-in thermal protection that follow ROAR guidelines. This sophisticated feature ensures a fun day at the track without the worry of overheating.

Many sensored, BL motor mfgs do not include the (extremely inexpensive ;-)) sensor board components to provide temperature overload protection.

We do not know which other mfgs' motors have it, so we just spec Novak motors. If you are confident that your motor does include these components, you could use your brand motor.
