Anyone run the 1/16 scale small 2s packs?

Hey guys. New here. I have an ax10 that i have got set up pretty well for recreational crawling but now I am entering into the scale world. I recently picked up a Honcho RTR and am in the process of getting it set up. I baked the tires and wheels in the oven and put the stock tires on axial beadlocks. I plan to add weights inside as I did with my ax.

I have been thinking about the batteries I want to run. On my ax I am running a split 6 cell nimh pack on the front axle. On the scx I would like to run saddle packs over the sliders to keep a decent weight balance with a relatively low CG. My cousin has a 1/16 Traxxas e-revo and the packs it runs are mini versions of a standard size 6 cell nimh or 2s lipo. I was thinking that these would be a good option for me. Run two 2s packs in parallel in a saddle arrangement. Has anyone used this type of pack in an scx10? TowerHobbies.com | Duratrax Onyx LiPo 2S 7.4V 2000mAh 25C Traxxas
They would fit real well on the slider mounts along the frame rails.

Yep, I do exactly that on a Dingo. 2 - 2000mAh 2S LiPo's in parallel. Made two battery plates out of thickish lexan and mounted on the slider extensions.

Only problem is the truck doesn't have quite enough forward weight and will topple over backwards on a steep grade. The Honcho's longer wheelbase will help this, but I can't say if it's enough.

Interesting. From running my ax10, I know that having the weight biased to the front is nice for climbing but then when going down steep slopes it sometimes wants to flip over. Are you running any wheel weight?

What kind of run time do you get and what motor do you run?

These are what my friends and I run.. Single 2200 pack, not saddled ... we run the truck, winch and lights off the single pack

Yup, running about 2.5oz in each front wheel and the wheels are billet type which are heavier than stock. I get easily 1.5-2 hrs of constant trail running with this setup. I've never let it run to LVC, so I can't say what the max would be.

Stock 27T motor but geared 56/13 32 pitch. Underdrive gears in the rear diff. Overdrive in the front would likely help a bit, but I haven't done that...yet.
I did add a little lead weight to the front of the frame...helped a bit, but not as good as my Honcho with the battery mounted sideways just in front of the motor on a DIY plate.

Wow, those hobby king packs are cheap.

Two hours of run time would be plenty for me. I dont typically run for more than an hour at a time. Maybe i could get by with a single 2s 2000 mounted laterally in front of the motor as you said. Having to swap packs isnt a huge deal if i get better crawling ability.

Depending on how you arrange stuff. I had to mount my ESC standing up to allow enough room. The tray sits just high enough for the links and driveshafts to clear. A single LiPo wouldn't need quite as much space.

I ordered a couple packs from Hobby King to try out along with some other misc stuff. Their prices are hard to resist. Shipping is decent as long as the stuff is stocked at the US warehouse.

I've been running a 5000mah 2s run across the frame as pictured above but I ordered those above but 2200mah 3s batteries run on the skids

I run 3s1300mah45-90c packs out back in the tool box.

I may one day consider 3s. The extra power sounds nice, but I am not excited about breaking down or needing lots of upgrades. Either way, it sounds like there are quite a few options for battery locations. I will just have to experiment and find out what works for me. Thanks for posting pics you guys.
