Anybody running the Proline PowerStroke Scaler Shocks?

If they didn't leak and had other spring tuning options, they would be very nice.

Mine leaked out of the box...badly. A call to Proline, they sent me a rebuild kit. Still leaked badly. I ended up buying some quad o-rings from McMaster which finally fixed the leak but with a trade-off of a bit more stiction. I'm using them on a built SCX scaler that weighs significantly more than stock. The only spring option is for stock. I had to use Axial springs in a duel rate configuration and could never find a single spring that would work.

I second the Traxxas Big Bore shocks. Don't leak and arguably some of the smoothest cycling shocks available. Dlux sells them as a complete assembly or you can buy them raw. Just for reference the 2660s are 80mm, 2661s are 90mm and 2662s are 100mm.
 
I ran the Pro-Line scalers for a while on a Gelande 2 D90. They were an improvement over stock (not saying much), but they didn't blow me away. For a 90mm scale-ish shock, I'm really liking the Traxxas GTS shocks that come on the TRX-4. They're very (very) smooth and hold oil well. If you look around, you can find take-offs for $40-50 per set of 4, which is a good deal given the performance.

The Proline shocks are amazing on my monster truck. Proline is building some of the best shocks right now IMO. For scalers shocks aren't very important to be honest.

What makes the DLux Fab shocks worth the big premium over standard Traxxas Big Bores? The Big Bores are fine as-is.
 
Turned down bodies for lighter weight, Losi mini-T style springs (same), rod ends that allow more rotation on the mounting points. More important for comp crawling. I'm fine with my standard big-bores, just pointing out that these are sweet. If you look them up on Dravtech's actual site, there is more info. They aren't as "pretty" as Pro-line's, but are more scale appearing than standard Traxxas.

Ah so there are more differences than I realized. Standard Big Bores would be more than fine for the average scaler. I just don't like that fact that you have to use Mini-T springs.

They look great and when they have oil they are smooth, but both sets of mine leak pretty badly. Both were taken apart and green slimed before I ever ran them.

I'm running the Dravtechs on my C2. Still trying to get the oil and spring rates dialed in, but they are very smooth, light, and look good. If you build them right (get the clip fully seated) they don't leak.

I agree that great shocks aren't extremely important on a scale rig, but if you have a couple shocks that somehow hold oil and a couple that leak like a sieve, it makes the truck unpredictable and will allow more torque twist.

My Prolines haven't leaked a drop up to this point and that's after jumping the snot out of my monster truck.

Leaking shocks cause inconsistencies for sure.
 
I definitely hear ya on that score... I'm using Axial grey painted springs on my Big-Bore shocks in the spring rates that the kit comes with. NO BLUE! "thumbsup"

I guess the at-this-time purely conceptualized 2nd Bomber will use all the bleeping blue bits, such as the kit "King" replica shocks.

That's what I have on my Bomber. Up to this point they're the only Axial shocks I like. It's nice that they come mostly aluminum. I wish they offered the bottom piece in aluminum.
 
Im using the kit shocks on the Bomber as well but i agree with durok, that blue is not the best for all paint jobs...

Wish they were black or silver.

Axial offers the blue parts in black.

I think people avoid the GTR shocks because they have threaded bodies.

Nice shocks but the 13mm diameter is much larger than the big bores so they look out of scale on most trucks.

Also, the selection of springs is limited. The lightest springs I found that work are still a little too stiff for my Bomber and would be way too stiff for a strict crawler.

The softest spring is 2.5lb, how does it compare to axial or proline?

Those Associated springs are the ones I run. I probably posted the GTR shock and spring info in one of the Bomber shock threads.

A stock Bomber front spring is about a 1.4lb spring so it is significantly lighter than the lightest GTR compatible spring.
 
I've never owned any of the Dlux shocks but i know they make quality stuff for the comp guys. As far as the Proline scalers go I've had them couple of my trucks and haven't had a leaks yet. They're durable and ultra smooth with good quality shock oil. If you assemble them with Associated Green Slime or even better Aladdin Magic Lube you shouldn't have any leaks. A few years ago I met a few Pro racers at a Tamiya TCS event who told me the Aladdin Magic Lube. It's a PTFE lubricant that's actually made for pools but works great on sealing silicone o'rings. I've found it at Home Depot before and of course any pool supply store will have it. You should try some.
