Hello all you multi axle rig aficionados!

I have a few projects to get finished up, but am planning a custom 6x6 build using AR60 axles and was curious what the "go to" chassis is? Or if there is one that stands out as better than the others?

Once I get going, I will start a build thread, but as usual, it will be a slow process with my work schedule and other obligations.

Thanks in advance for any insight "thumbsup"

There’s been a few builds with ar60’s on the gspeed chassis. Other than something custom and some small releases from brazin now n then gspeed is the only 6x6 chassis that’s performance based actively available that I’m aware of.
What kind of suspension setup are you planning on? And just front wheel steer?
Are you wanting a performance based rig or something scale?

If you're going for an LCG performance build I'd probably go with a gspeed carbon fiber chassis (https://gspeedchassis.com/products/copy-of-gspeed-chassis-tgh-v3-carbon-fiber-rails-only-in-stock). They use an an axial style three gear transmission that sits low and forward in the frame. They're kind of spendy and require a bit more thought to be put into the build but from the builds I've seen on here they're really good for their price.

If you want simple, effective and scale (mostly), probably a TRX6 chassis. I think the TRX6 and the Axial UMG 6x6 are the only 1:10 scale ish chassis but the Traxxas are single piece rails as opposed to the Axial, which uses and extension to the existing SCX10II chassis. The Axial frame tends to twist more than the Traxxas, but that isn't necessarily a negative depending on your preference.

Likely not super scale, as I tend to not have the patience, or time to put into that kind of build. It will end up being a bigger, slow crawler, as I like that king of wheeling better

I was thinking of looking for a TRX6 take-off chassis to play with, as I like the idea of the one piece design and see if it would suffice.

Fortunately you don't even need to do a take-off if you go with a TRX6 frame. Unless you want the rest of the truck laying around for future use. You can pick just the rails for half the price of the GSpeed. https://m.traxxas.com/products/parts/8829

Another couple bucks for chassis braces and the center skid (might not be ideal depending on the transmission you intend to use) and you've got all your frame-side link mount as well.

To be honest though, I don't how well an AR60 would fit with the factory TRX6 link mounts. I think you could spread the links wide enough (axle end) for it to work but I've never tried it myself.

Side note, this question made me think about building a 6WS 6x6....

Dang it, I have too many active projects already. I don't need another one.

I’ve seen a guy out here that has a 6ws trx based axle 6x6 on a brazin chassis. It’s pretty impressive. I’m running ar45p portal axles on mine just front wheel steer but I thought if I had a stupid budget I’d build a 6ws Capra based gspeed rig. Not sure how well it would work out though

I'm just imagining the lines you could take with an AR60 width, independent 6WS setup.

Throw in some active suspension, you could just about put your 6 tires anywhere you need them.
