2.2 wheels/weights/hubs frustrations.

Okay, so I've got SSD 2.2 wheels for a wraith-based truck I'm building.

I ordered vanquish rotor style wheel weights for them, but the ssd hubs won't fit in the wheel weights.

I order injora hubs because I already spent more than I should have on the wheel weights. They fit. Awesome. But they're tapped to 3mm. SSD wheels use M2.5 screws.

Fine, I'll use the screws that came with the wheels weights... Nope, they're some other thread type. Even if I got the Vanquish hubs, I don't have a hex driver to install them because they're some stupid size between 2 and 2.5mm.

Fine, I'll dig out some M3 cap head screws I know I've got somewhere. NOPE. The heads of the screws are too big to sit flush on the face of the SSD wheels.

I can't return the $60 wheel weights at this point, so I'm gonna put the SSD's on my rock rey and find something else.

Since SSD is off the table, and vanquish is out of stock of everything, what decent quality 2.2 wheels will work with Injora hubs (M3) and Vanquish SLW wheel weights!? Nothing can ever be simple.

How about these?

Vanquish parts are American and don't use metric threads. If you want Vanquish wheels the hubsVanquish. also need to be vanquish. As well as anything in between.

Since the rotor weights aren’t threaded, I should still be able to use them with metric hardware. I just need a wheel that uses m3 screws to attach to the hubs.

I just finished installing a vanquish 3 gear trans and vanquish dig unit. All of that shit was metric (or at least I installed it with metric hex drivers), so why’d they have to go all goofball with the wheel hardware?!

It's goofball in an rc world where everyone else is metric

While I agree that metric threads would make things easier VP has used 4-40 threads on their SLW hubs since the begining due to their strength. When they came out metric hardware wasn't the norm, associated and losi still used sae in their rigs too.

I guess that makes sense. I'm not gonna mix sae and metric on my trucks, so those vanquish screws are already in the garbage. If strength is an issue then why would SSD be using M2.5 screws on their hubs?

Anyway, Thanks for letting me vent. I ordered a couple sets of cheapo beadlocks on amazon. Hopefully one of them will work, just so I can get things mounted and working for the time being (I actually really like the look of the black ones). As much as I hate giving Bezos more money, you can't beat the amazon return policy.

I have a set of the cheap china 2.2s I just got. The hubs were a bit funky and wouldn't fit well on my Ryft. It's like they are made to have an insert for the axle the way they are milled out around the axle hole in the hubs themselves.
Not sure how the Vanquish ones are.

But for my set, I took out the center hubs on them and used a set of SSD hubs made for the Ryft to use Pro Line wheels on.
This worked great. The holes for the SSD Hubs all lined up on the holes for the hubs, and the center hole for the axle was the correct size for the Ryft axles.
Was able to use the stock flanged locknut to put the wheel on and it was nice and tight and no slop in the wheel/hex/axle assembly.

These are the SSD Hubs I used. They should work with any 6 bolt hub and 12mm hex, depending on needed offset. These ones do have a bigger center hole for the larger Ryft 5mm axles using the 8mm flanged locknuts.

Interesting. Looks good. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately ssd hubs don't fit inside the Vanquish wheel weights I'm determined to use. That's how my whole fiasco started. Both sets of wheels arrive Sunday, then I'll see what other tweaking needs to be done.

I grew up on SAE too but metric is better. Ask anyone else...

It's called globalization and America should get with the program.

(This is just for arguments sake, don't get bent)

I'm a carpenter, so I use a tape all day long and I couldn't agree more. Years ago I was building commercial greenhouses in nor-cal, sent straight from china. Plans were all metric. Asinine that we would do it a different way.

Metric Smetric, Its pure balderdash.

The Industrial Revolution of Europe didn't bring us into the 21st Century.
The American Industrial Revolution and Capitalism Did.

SAE standards have been the Standards for Thousands of Years. Not just 50 like the IMPERIAL Metric System has.

:lmao:

I'm surprised to hear an American carpenter chime in and agree as that' field hugely imperial measurement bases.

But a system based on 10's
Vs
a system that's has 12 inches = 1 foot and 3 feet = 1 yard and then a mile is....
I don't know how many feet or yards is in a mile...

Remembering 3ft 4in and 3 quarters
Is kind of a pain in the butt.

103.5cm is much easier.

The first plane...why aren't we all flying around in one of those again?

Because some one made a newer better one...

Older does not equal better.

Holding to older inferior methods, that's just stubbornness.

I am pretty sure none of those things affected the time continum. The 21st century would have come either way.

What doesn’t register with you is VP has always done it this way, you don’t change and make all the older products “obsolete”
I learned SAE when growing up in shop class, and I repaired camera’s in the 70’s and 80’s and learned metrics.
What’s neat is …… they all work! Nothing makes either better or worse.

I also had BSA’s in those 70’s so I won’t mention Whitworth fasteners, not metric!
