1/20 scale model body for SCX24?

Been looking at getting an Axial SCX24 for a hot minute now, and heard that people were putting 1/24 model truck bodies in them. Just wanted to know if I could mount a 1/20 scale S10/Sonoma body on it without it looking too goofy in proportion.

Measure the wheel base on it and see if you can find a wheel base spec for the kit you want to buy. If it matches up or is very very close you should be okay to use it.

Actually 1/20th scale is a better fit on these than a 1/24th scale, its a shame there arent many 1/20th scale models to choose from.

There's no one scale that fits perfectly since the scale is just a percentage of the real size.
Most 1/24-1/25 full sized trucks will have a wheelbase close to the SCX24, but wheels and tires may look large.

1/20 mid size trucks like from Lindberg/AMT fit the wheelbase almost perfectly and the wheels and tires are a more realistic size

1/18 short wheelbase bodies like the RC4WD D90 & JK fit the wheelbase almost perfectly

If you dig around the forum deep enough, you’ll find a few 1/20 scale builds. Mostly the Toyota pickups, but also some Sonoma and Nissan Hardbody builds too. I even found someone’s thread of a Jimmy and Toyota sedan build. Spoo76 has also shown that there is an older ZJ Grand Cherokee 1/20 model kit that fits almost perfect as well. I’m currently digging around for such builds as inspiration, trying to figure out what I want to do next.

Rcsteve710 on ig had a couple zj jeeps on scx24s and they look sweet. I've seen the toyota and nissan trucks and I believe a 4 runner may have been done. But yeah alot of these body's fit on.

The 1/20th Sonoma is a good fit on the SCX24. I started one of these builds earlier, just haven’t gotten back to it yet.

Ford exploader looks like it's going to fit very well, what's everyone using for mounting points?

Alright, so I just got my SCX24 ordered. Went with the Deadbolt version in green from Amazon, should have it before Christmas.

After being essentially afk and reading y'alls comments, I'm gonna stick with the Sonoma body that I have.

Question now is, how would I go about mounting it?

I bought these tiny rare earth magnets that are about 1/4" you can fit larger magnets as well and just make custom mounts with them. Each body is going to be different for where to mount so keep that in mind if you are planning on making multiple body's to drop on. I'm basically trying to make my own mount posts and a centering magnet system for mine so I can change the body out with others with less of a hassle than I would tieing it to the frame or something.

Any photo, please ?

Just purchased a 120th Toyota Hilux off eBay today I'll let you all know how it rolls.. and for reference I picked up a Baja bronco kit a couple years ago and a Datsun off-road pickup. Both are 1/24/ 1/25 scale and do Not work well. I also picked up the GMC pickup with snow plow kit which many people know does actually fit well because It was a larger vehicle in the first place.

But if anybody wants these kits other than the GMC let me know, happy to pass them on.
Cheers

Do yo have pics of the Toyota and GMC? Thats a different brand than the AMT Toyota body I posted.
Lindberg made the molds for the 1/20 Toyota, 1/20 GMC Sonoma, and the 1/20 Nissan King cab. Those molds were later bought by AMT and reissued under the AMT brand. You can still find the AMT versions for retail price in some hobby shops

The Toyota is on an order should be here in a week or so.. here's a couple shots of the GMC on a highly modded trail trekker. As you can see the essentially has the same wheelbase with the mods I did on the losi.

Thanks, no worries on posting the Toyota since its apparently the same mold. On the other hand I'd still be curious to see it all painted and mounted up "thumbsup"

im still new so i cant post pics. i have put a Datsun 620 pickup body on my deadbolt chassis. like the offroad Datsun(thats the 720) its a little small so you have to split the difference on the wheel wells to make it look ok. its kind of monster truck looking. Since i actually have a 620 i wanted to do this. i mounted it using the neodymium magnets glued to the rear shock mounts(cut down to a flat surface), and swapped sides on the front body mounts and turned them to face rearward. Again if i could post pics i could SHOW it. im starting my own build thread so once i can post links and attachments I will. since the body is not in the way of wheels or tires, the options open up.......
i think that Datsun 720 would look really cool.
