I'm planning on going out to Folsom lake this Sunday to do some crawling. Might bring the slash along too for the sand banks... I'm sure there will be others too if anyone wants to come. Do some scale runs.

Yeah I need to know if that entrance is closed as well as Dotton's point. That is where I'm planning on entering and going. If it is closed, what other routes are there to Dotton's or Oak Point? Thanks.

you can get in at the douglass side, but the road to dottons and oakpoint is closed. you can only get to the first boat ramp. you could try to drive along the beach to get to oak.

I know they close the back side every year, but it is usually because of high water. ( And the closure is sometimes only on the weekends). Have we gotten that much rain this season?

I did some researching before I went out 2 days ago on Sunday. From the CA SRA Folsom Lake site:

As in past years, this year's closure of the Peninsula unit of Folsom Lake State Recreation Area will be in effect from October 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.

Here is a map from their site. As you can see the Peninsula unit is the shore opposite of Dotton's - the one you can see from the rocks there. I've marked both points on the map and the other gold star in the far left is about where oak point is.

If you have a 4x4 and are down for a little adventure you can easily wheel out to either point from the boat launch ramp or the second parking lot. I've done it lots of times and haven't gotten stuck yet. "thumbsup" If you stay high up, you should be fine. There is one little pass through mud so a little throttle and you'll be fine.

As you can see the closed area is far away from us and when I went out there, I had no problems taking the paved roads from Douglas all the way in to Dotton's. Then I wheeled back and all was well. So hopefully some of you will venture out there next weekend if it's clear. I know I plan to be out there testing out the rig. If anyone is interested in the 4x4 route, let me know and we can try and meet up and head out together.
