Burnt up TWO savox 2270's. Am I the only one?

Hey guys, just wondering if I'm alone here, but has anyone else had a problem with the 2270's killing themselves before a full pack through them? I had 2 different set ups, and had very similar results:

The first I had the servo wired right into the battery connector, for the power and ground, and the signal wire going to the receiver box. This took it less than 7 minutes to let out the blue smoke of death. I let my dad run the truck through an open lot, and he said the steering stopped working. By the time I could walk the 15 feet to it, it had smoked, and shorted through the wires (from the heat, I presume)

So I had bought a second for backup, and figured I would use a BEC, and upgraded to a 7.4v capable futaba radio system, so I could install the servo with a BEC, and not have to cut and splice wires as to retain my warranty on the servo, if I were to have a problem again. This one lasted 15 minutes... There were to many 'skeeters by the river where I usually crawl, it ran on flat ground on the way to the crawl spot, and back, me running to attempt to not get bit by foul flying blood suckers. Got back to the truck, let it sit for a few, and it stopped turning all together. Got crazy hot too.

Am I the only one that's had this issue? Did I just get 2 lemons? What servo do I need to buy for it to last?

No way. They are the greatest servo to ever exist. Just ask the dozens of people who swear by them.

OR, be happy you figured it out now, know that once you buy a Hitec you will not have to buy another servo for a long time.

After an hour of messing around in my LHS, it ended up being my BEC was the problem. Replaced and re wired that, and one of my servo's came back to life. I don't understand what happened to the other one though. I mean even running the power/ground wires straight to the battery shouldn't do anything unless the RX is telling it to?

I get that, I'm just surprised 1v would do that much damage. Anything automotive related works at anywhere from 10v-up to 14.5v, I've even seen as high as 15.5v. I suppose that stuff is all designed for a higher voltage variance.

I just got another 1230sg on ebay, 59.99 shipped with an aluminum horn. The way I figure it is if I burn up a circuit board or something and the motor and gears are still good, then it will make an incredible servo winch. Why not try a 1230 or 1231? 1230 is 500oz, 1231 is 444. Both at 6V and plenty fast for a crawler.

This and when Hitec does die, their warranty is good! I don't like loud servos or brushless motors either. "thumbsup"

It's what the thing costed at the LHS. Apparently I should have gotten it somewhere else?

I didn't know they made such a pricey servo.. Most ppl buy them cause they are "cheaper" then a Hitec.. If you can spend the money, it's better spent on a Hitec..

Yes, savox ppl that have had good luck with savox, keep running them..
This poor guy spent a 7950 on a savox.. What's savox doin for you to fix it? Replacing the servo? Replacing the fried board? Replacing the motor?

I haven't talked to anyone there. I assumed because I trimmed the servo wires I'd be disregarded for any sort of warranty. Might be worth an email now that you mention it though.

A buddy toasted 3 servos in one day before he gave up - Contacted Savox for 3 months and it basically came down to "If you did not run a Glitch Buster on the servo We won’t warranty it."
I ran 3 and the 1st one lasted a year without fault, so I grab 2 move to Champs in PA...... Both died within mins of use. Swapped to the original savox that had lasted the longest and it barely lasted the day.

If they had decent customer service and stood beside their products - Sure I "might" give them another go. But instead I bought a Hitech.

I did some more digging into this. As it turns out, it was my BEC that was fried on the second servo. It worked for a while, and then died. Took me and a guy from the LHS almost 40 minutes to figure out the problem. We'll see how long this servo lasts now.
