Styrene sheet thickness?

Need to order some styrene sheets for interior work, custom toolbox and want to know what thickness I need to get? What are you guys using to glue it together with? Want to make my truck scale as possible and getting a needs list together... Thanks!!!

I use .030" (0.8mm) styrene sheets for really everything. It has the thickness to not break when you roll over or hit something but also not so thick that you start adding alot of weight.


For adhesion, most members use Pro-Weld or Tamiya extra thin cement. If it is a very complex part that needs a little extra strength, pick up some plastic 2 part epoxy. Search on Youtube: "Styrene Building" and you'll see tons of videos that will help you get going.

You're bound to get many different answers in regards to specific thicknesses that can be used for interiors and toolboxes etc. because there's more than one way to fabricate them. For example, .030 to .060 thick styrene might be just right for fabricating a custom interior console but it probably wouldn't be applicable for that custom toolbox. I would buy a few different thicknesses and experiment with them before fabricating your final design(s). Here is a link that lists multiple thicknesses of styrene.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the help guys!!!! This is all new to me and have done research on this truck for the last month. My goal with this one is to be all scale and a few upgrades... Just received my truck today and have done started the build. Good thing about these unlike helicopters, is they will last a while...lol Spend a lot of time building a scale heli and all it takes is one crash because of a hardware failure and your starting over.... Back to my build... ;-)

.060 for anything striking the ground or a roll-over. Try to keep that to a minimum

.030 for anything not so vulnerable
