Not for the squeamish.
Bit it this evening on the mountain bike.
Was tooling around the neighborhood when my buddy's son said "Dad, let's race." I happened to be riding by when Walt said "Race Jason. He's already on his bike." So I raced the kid. Beat him the first time. Second time I ate asphalt. Was placing my weight on the pedals (Crank Bros. CandyCs) when my right foot slipped off on the downstroke at speed (regular shoes). The previous run we had was 25.7MPH. With me trying to place all my weight on each downstroke and my foot slipping off the pedal it didn't take long to wipe out. When I came to I was sitting on the sidewalk and the paramedics were around me. I saw the bike and a good sized pool of blood next to it. As soon as I saw the size of the blood pool I knew I'd been out for a while. "How old are you?" First thing I thought of was "Too old for this shit." Ended up at MCG for five hours. Had to go through CT scan and get some staples. They couldn't staple the entire wound shut. Hurt like a mofo getting staples to the head without being numbed. First shot is of the blood pool and my size 12s. Second is my head as of now. Should be fun to stop this oozing tonight. |

That right there is the reason I wear my helmet all the time no matter the ride.
Damn, that is pretty graphic though. |

Damn dude.. thats pretty nasty.. Glad your ok..
ChaMan, I dunno why "staples" are such a big suprise to you. They are used all the time. Ive had some myself. If a wound is on a surface that is thin to the bone, they would rather use staples instead of threading it due to the fact of the bone being so close to the tissue. I agree it doesnt look like it was closed to well, you might wanna go back in and tell them to get it shut. Looks like its still bleeding pretty good. |

I don't know who should be more worried you or your wife.
Idle time is the devils handy work! I always though you should have your head examined. |

Ow, I thought that was your knee at first, then I saw the ear. Must have been a pretty nasty fall.

It took a while 'cause I was confused at first. I mean, I woke up sitting up on the sidewalk with the paramedics bandaging my head. They're asking my name and age and I told'm "Too old for this shit" then asked what all I'd injured. Quote:

"What'd you do today?" "Was at the house with Rusty was working on tile." "What are you doing now?" "Ah, just sitting around. Nothing much, really." They came in to wheel me out for the CT scan; "We need to make sure you didn't do brain damage." I had to laugh. "I'm not sure I have the required equipment." Quote:
After we left MCG (2AM) we headed to Waffle House for food. Got home and cut my T-shirt off. It was caked and crusty with blood. I'm a little sore today. Road rash on a large portion of my right shoulder, right hip, elbow, and of course, my head. I'm good though, hard part is over...I woke up. Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 06-08-2008 at 07:29 AM. |

I had a very similar crash one time but on my little 20", my head came down on to my peg as my foot slipped off. I woke in the hospital getting stitches on my forehead. My buddy tried to give me water when I was out and It came right back out of my mouth through a hole the size of my pinky in my lower lip. I hope you heal up good, scars on the scalp and wounds there are never fun.

You don't need my trials bike, you get plenty injured on that mountain bike without leaving the ground.
Hope all heals up well, thats one helluva strawberry. |

The last time I wrecked my bike I had a concussion and stiches in my head and a broken wrist, I don't remember about day and half of my life. It was awsome.
