New RC Guy Rock Crawler Products:

Clod to Maxx Wheel Adapters:

Until recently, there were limited choices in adapters that would allow you to run Maxx style wheels on your Clod axles. In my opinion, the HeydCo adapters were, and still are some of the best adapters on the market. They work perfectly, the price is right and they are tough as nails, not to mention that Andy is a great guy to deal with!!! A huge benefit to the HeyCo adapters is that you achieved a perfect offset with standard Maxx offset wheels. I run them on my Clod based rig with regular offset RPM wheels and Proline Maxx Mashers.

Where I ran into some trouble, was when I combined the HeyCo adapters and the Proline 40 Series wheels. The 40 Series wheels have a lot of negative back spacing built into them and the wheel tends to ride way offset from the steering knuckle area. The adapter and the wheel together create tire scrub, which leads to lost turning radius and more stress on the servos and bearings. The wide stance is great but can also hinder you on tight courses that we are seeing more and more of in today's competitions.

Introducing the new Clod to Maxx Wheel Adapters from RC Guy! When I received them in the mail, I looked at them and said, “Why has someone not come up with something so simple, sooner???” Each adapter is only slightly larger in diameter than the brass Clod hex. They are only as wide as two slim hexes put together. The slim width keeps the 40 Series wheels tucked up closely to the steering knuckles allowing for really tight turning. In fact, I had to move my lower links slightly inward because the tires where rubbing against them! I was worried that the narrower track would decrease the stability I was used to. After much testing, I have noticed no problems with stability but I have noticed better steering response from a more nimble truck. I can also squeeze through tight spots that I previously had problems with. I also notice that by bringing the tires closer to each other, I scrape the differentials less than I used to.

Roger at RC Guy told me that he is running a special on these adapters for (set of 4) $30 + shipping for all RCC members, for a limited time. These adapters are awesome!!! Super light weight!!! Super small!!!! Very easy to use: you slip the brass hex in one side and slide the assembly onto the stub shaft. You use the original wheel nut!!! Get ‘em now!!!

It's great to have a choice! Wide or narrow, you can't go wrong! Think of what is most important to your application and get RC Guy or HeydCo adapters…you can't go wrong with either!

8 Tooth Pinions:

Nine and ten tooth pinions are common these days and I'll bet that most of us are running them in our Clods. They work well but with tire sizes becoming larger and larger, I started wondering if an 8 tooth pinion may work better. Long gone are the days that several companies offered 8 tooth pinions so we are really forced into having the 9 tooth as our lowest option. Once again RC G uy steps up to the plate and are now producing 8 tooth pinions. The pinions seem perfect for tires as large as the Proline Moab's, which many of us are running now. They allow for ultra low crawling but you can still get enough wheel speed when needed!

The pinions are built tough too! They are a two piece design made up from a long pinion gear stock and a collar that is pressed on, with two grub screws for locking them on the motor shaft. RC Guys has very limited quantity of the pinions and you'll have to contact Roger at RC Guy for pricing and availability.
