Narrowing Stampede Wheels

Today I finally got my wheels and glue so I could start narrowing. I got Traxxas Stampede fronts and thick CA glue. I like the Stampede wheels because after you're done you end up with a sort of built in widener. The whole process took me maybe 3 hours, 3.5 hours tops. Oh yeah, I also got some Moabs to test the wheels with.

Tools and parts needed:
1. Wheels (duh)
2. CA glue (thick would be best)
3. Vice or any other tool to clap down wheel while cutting
4. Hack saw
5. Dremel or any tool of the same sort

Now onto how to narrowing them.

The first step is to cut the inner ring off.

You will end up with something like this.

Now that you have the two pieces, use your Dremel to grind everything down smooth.

You don't have to worry about getting the bigger half perfect because you will be cutting more off.

This is when I realized something was missing.

That's better. Now I was able to continue.

With everything ground down smooth, slide the ring over the bigger half and determine what width you want.

I chose 1" from the outside of the ring that wasn't cut off to the inside of the ring that was cut.

Now put some CA glue around the inside of the ring where it meets the big half. You might want to put it on there really good if you chose the same width I did because there is a gap under the ring. The glue tends to seep in and fill that gap instead of gluing the two pieces together.

Now all you can do is kick up the dogs and relax while you wait for the glue to dry.

Ok. About 10 minutes later and 'lil nap, I could continue once again.
Put the Piece you now have in the vice and cut the remaining part away that is on the outside of the ring that you have just glued on. **Be sure to rotate the part instead of making one cut straight down or else you will no longer be able to put a hex in your wheel!!**

All that's left to do now is some more grinding, no guys not the grinding you're thinking of. You just have to make everything smooth, mainly for looks.

Congratulations!!! You're done narrowing. All you have to do is mount them up and go crawl.

Here's what i got as a result.

You can clearly see the difference between narrowed and un narrowed.

This picture is un narrowed.

This picture show the narrowed version.

I hope you guys liked this article and will use it for a later reference. Thanks for reading.
