Rumored for many moons and now coming to fruition.

'VIP Pre-Launch Purchase & Sneak Peek' only available to WPL-RC members who have "Founder" status.
$59.90 USD.

https://www.wpl-rc.com/collections/e-series

Probably 1/16 scale to match the rest of WPL military truck 'B' series.

This is a Russian military tracked vehicle which many have nailed down (from the spy photos) to be the GAZ-71 aka the GT-SM.
Lightly armored if armored at all, it should be a good platform for all kinds of modifications especially many special purpose civilian versions.

Which Sherman did you order?

I have always loved the Sherman as one of the best all around tanks. "thumbsup"

After binge-watching several GAZ-71 videos on youtube (Survival Russia channel), I am enamored with this vehicle. Low profile, non-armored, lots of room, amphibious, easily repaired--like an SUV with tracks.

Hi
I got a great deal on an upgraded Heng Long M4M3 shorts barrel with metal wheels and track and gearbox with steel gear (can't remember which gearing) and upgrade 360 turret rotation.
It is a total standard exterior so allows me to paint it and build it as I now desire.

And here it is:

Obviously lots of external parts are not installed, the wheel centers, the doors, etc. but it looks pretty good.

The first photos I posted were of a 1:43 scale diecast model.

If the photo of the flatbed trailer and the modified WPL B36 (Ural 4320) to tow it with (see photo below) is real and not a CGI rendering, you can bet it already
exists and they planned to release it all along, but they want to make you think you are "funding it" by purchasing the E1.

That's marketing. ;-)

I know this isn't a crawler and it is terribly off topic regarding the forum interests, but this is a cross-over vehicle perhaps, and can certainly crawl.

It’s a funny little thing. Slow as a slug, though. What surprised me was that the sprockets and rearmost wheels already came with ball bearings.
I blew-up the esc/controller when trying to make a longer battery lead. Got the wires crossed.. sheesh.. 40 years of RC building… and mucking-up wiring…
Ah well. I had a full Heng Long gen4 2,4ghz Tank-Controller set ( the one with two sounds onboard) in a drawer. So, out with the tiny controller board, out with the battery box, and in with the big-arse tank controller that -amazingly- fits exactly between the cargo bed and the gearbox. Big Speaker in the cargo bed.. and noisy fun to be had.. :p
I took off the tracks to paint the wheels, hence the ‘naked’ look.

Off-road it’s better than I thought it to be with its vinyl tracks. The tracks have tiny claws on them that work really well as long as the ground and obstacles remain dry. Though I’m waiting anxiously for the metal tracks and sprockets. Pre-production items are already around, and seem to work like a charm.

Nice weathering job!

Thnx. A lot of MIG ‘old rust’ and Tamiya NATO brown.
Now wìth tracks and doors in place. It’s way too much fun, making an RC look like it has been through hell- and back..

Built the production version of the metal tracks. It looks amazing ..but the wòrk to assemble them.. 3 sessions of one hour each, just to prevent me from going bonkers. IF You have the funds and patience to wait for an assembled set, I’d strongly advise You to buy that one. Unless You’re a vèry patient person.

By the by. The sprocket is of a completely different design from the prototypes. I guess they found out that -very scale- plastic sprockets and metal tracks wear like crazy. At the moment it’s sort of a ‘cage’ construction with pins, squeezed between the sprocket faces. It works, but it’s super fiddly to get the tiny, TINY pins inbetween.

And, yes. I got me 2 of the crazy contraptions. Hey.. at just 44 Euro’s each with Banggood’s ‘VIP deals’ How am I to say ‘no’ ….?? :ror:

WPL E-1 Tracked Transport Vehicle

I also have one of these nice little machines. It runs fairly well but I have ordered the metal track upgrade so I can use it more reliably on rough terrain.

It is a pity that WPL were not truthful about the real scale. It is actually somewhere between 1:18 and 1:19 scale rather than the advertised 1:16 scale.

If you are interested to find out more about the real vehicles on which the E-1 is based then you are invited to check my review video where I look into the development of the real GT-SM (GAZ-71).

They are not the only one. Nearly EVERY big name in RC hobbies can't get the scale right either. They falsely advertise things as only the dominant scale(s) currently available
and so "1/16" is just a marketing claim but I think they wanted to make it tie in with the Heng Long and Tamiya tank series plus the WPL military trucks.

A lot of "1/10" products often scale out to 1/8, 1/7, 1/12 for example, or somewhere in between. Utter madness!

FYI it’s currently $37 …no now $29 on Amazon. It wasn’t on my list but …I’m a sucker for tracked vehicles so it’s an okay price even if it just sits on the shelf

There was finally some snow so I managed to get my E-1 outside for some proper winter performance testing. In the video below, you can see how the E-1 performs on ice, cross-country and deep snow. This is exactly the type of terrain that the real GT-SM (GAZ-71) was designed for.
