I have an xl-5 Rustler and I would like to convert it and my crawler to lipo. It says it's rated for 9.6v, but I would like to buy the most volts I can.

Yes it will fry the stock esc, i ran the slashe's xl-5 on 3s for very short runs, 3-5 min max and it didn't smoke, but i would highly not recommend going that route.

Thanks for the reply. I'll hold off on going to lipos on the Rustler until I'm ready to change the esc also. I just bought one mamba max and 3s for the crawler...will need to wait a while to do the same for the Rustler.

Depends on the motor I think.
I have heard of guys running 3S LiPo with the stock motor with no problem.

I put an 11T Holmes Hobbies Handwound motor in and my 9.6V Sub-C battery and the ESC smoked the instant I pulled the trigger.

Search up "Slash Fire" on youtube.. Guy was running a 3s and it made his slash start on fire.. Esc was a ball of smoke and flames..
