Personally I prefer the Redcat Gen 8 Scout myself. Its a nice rig with plenty of parts for repairs and upgrades. Plus it comes with some very nice crawler upgrades already with the portal axles. It also has steel gears all the way through the axles and transfer case, and to top it off it has a nicely done up body. While lacking a battery and charger its by far the better option in my book. Welcome to the family, crawl on!!

As everyone says, the Gen8 is the best choice of those you have listed. The Gen7 may come with a battery and charger but the Gen8 is way better value for the $70 more. If you look at the battery and charger that comes with the Gen7 you can get them to start you going for about $25 each. You'll be $20 over budget. Nothing wrong with them to start and you can up-grade batteries and charger as funds become available.

Interesting to me is Redcat sells a Gens Ace 4600 2S Shorty Lipo for just $5 more. The charger would be more expensive but you'll end up going Lipo down the road so might be worth the extra cost to get the Lipo and a proper Lipo charger right at the start. A good Lipo capable charger will probably run $40+ so with the battery and charger you could be about $50 over your budget.

Thank you everyone for your comments and feedback. Deep inside I have always liked the Gen8 and I am going to pursue that route.

Any recommended Battery and charger for that Gen8?
I am planning on ordering from Amazon or is there a better store to order this from?
I live in Denver and the stores around here that carry RC Crawlers are on the $500+range.

Again thank you all for your guidance and I can't wait to order my rig.

1. I would get a 3s lipo battery with at least 4000mah so you have plenty of running time. You can use a 2s, but I find that it lacks wheel spin in times you need it when getting over a rock. You can find good deals on chargers at your hobby shop or online. Just be sure it has an option for balance charging.

2. Amazon is fine. I believe the blue one is only $269 whereas the orange one is $299? I have the orange one, it's been my first crawler and I love it.

3. Even in Denver you should be able to find a Gen 8 for $300. They are not rare trucks.

IMO Amazon is not the place to look for RC parts unless you have to. Check out RPP and Amain, they're actually focused on RC Crawlers and have only 1 listing per product unlike amazon that will spit out tons of duplicate listing from their many sellers.

Agreed. Also, Amazon is the most notorious place for counterfeit products.
