Depending on time, the 3rd 2.2 comp course may be limited to the top runners only.

Richmond guys..............anyone wanna carpool?

I can take the Magnum (company car so not supposed to, but whatever), so I can carry 3+me plus gear.

Comp starts at 12pm. Randy, what do you think the latest non-local guys could arrive and be able to participate? Do we need to show up around 10 for a comp that starts at 12? Personally not interested in the "show and shine" aspect of it. Would it be possible to "pre" register our info, have a quick tech inspection, then be able to run at noon?

well i need some help with setup and registration. i'm expecting a similar turn out as the richmond comp. i'll keep registration open til 11:30a. remember, the late rule applies... i like to have a driver's meeting by 11:45a and be on the course at noon. if we have enough judges, i like to run 2 rigs at a time.

running order: based on 3 rig minimum
2.2 comp
2.2 scale
1.9 scale
1.9 scale
2.2 scale
2.2 comp
2.2 comp (final)

also talked to sean, the manager there. i'm not sure what the prizes will be guys but i do know 2 of the giveaway prizes... 1) Losi Micro-Desert Truck RTR and 2) Duratrax ICE charger. not bad.

I believe there is a restraunt in the shopping center. I know that within a couple blocks there is a bunch of fast food.

probably right at 10a is course setup. the richmond store is coming down that morning with the pieces.

there is a subway and a Chinese restaurant within feet of HT. there's also a Apple Bee's or something like that across the parking lot.

blazerboy, i have a shock you can borrow.

Being the dumb ass I am, I forgot to see if anyone was bringing some gates. So if you guys read this before leaving, bring some.

And being the dumber ass I am, I decided to wait for the last minute to get stuff for the comp. Here's too another early morning.

And being the dumbest ass I am, it's 2:30 am and once again, I just finished putting my rig back together with a shitty paint job!!!

It was a good turnout for the first indoor comp at Hobbytown USA in Virginia Beach. Everybody had a great time, old and new crawlers alike. We got alot of traffic with customers so hopefully we will have a new crawlers in the area. And there was definite interest from a local track owner in building a local outdoor course!!! "thumbsup" Also, stay tuned. Their will more indoor comps at the Hobbytown stores with new ideas and obstacles.

The first course was setup in a "S" pattern with natural and man-made obstacles. The first hill climb on the man-made obstacle was challenging for all the rookies. Picking the right line with the right amount of wheel spin was the only way to make over it. After that, drivers were dragging a loose log over the log obstacle. The second course, we reversed it and everyone had that course dialed in. We attempted to make the third course a let more challenging. We had it a figure "8" which made a tight bridge crossing under the table obstacles.

Thanks to Nick, Noah, and Sean for hosting the comp. And Dave and Ned for driving down from Richmond with the indoor course. A big thanks to Dave and Carl for helping out with judging when my rig went into the repair pit!!!

On to the results:

2.2 Comp class
1 Andy Gordon (rck crshr): 9, -6, 5 = 8
2 Carl Denker (Clemet): 17, 19, -4 = 32

4 John Cobb (Mariner): 40, 18, 5 = 63
5 Luke Buffington (Luke): 40, 25, 3 = 68

7 Butch Self (Banchee): 22, 40, 32 = 94
8 Jazlyn Buffington: 40, 22, 36 = 98
9 Ben Denker: 39, 40, 40 = 119
10 Duck: 40, 40, 40 = 120

Randy, How does second place have 17,19,-4=22 It should be 32 unless I can't count or you posted the numbers wrong. I was also brought to my attention that if a person touches a boundry marker (not a gate marker) it doesn't count against you unless the truck hits it. Is this correct? As stated in the rules it only talks about the truck hitting the boundry and not a person. Now under the gate markers it states person or truck.

Looks like a decent turnout. How did the other classes go? Were there enough trucks for a scale class (1.9 or 2.2)?

Hopefully I can make it over there for the next one.

Thanks for the correction Joe. I mis-interrupted the boundary rule. It just being similar to the gate marker rule, I just implied it. Sorry Dave. Unfortunately, besides me and Dave, I do not know who else may have hit the boundary mark so I will not be able to make the changes to the points fairly. During course 3, I spent most of the time PR'ing VARCOR, RCC, HT, and the axial kit/RTR. BTW, Dave and Carl did a great job judging Course 2 and 3.

As of the math, Dave, Carl, or I are not math genius. :-P :-P I plan on finding a clipboard with a calculator on it before this weekend's comp, or just bring a small one. "thumbsup"

Mark, Dave was the only one with a scaler. Dave and I talked about it on Saturday, I'm thinking we're only going to make the HT Indoor Comps as 2.2 Comp only (or possible a scale only date too but not both). Running 11 rigs, one at the time, over 3 courses at a relax pace with a 30-minutes break took til 5:00 pm. Plus, at the moment, 2.2 comp is the popular class. Another idea for an indoor atmosphere, we're using all the obstacles on the courses at VB. I think next time, we only use a few obstacles on each course (less gates) but evoke a time limit. This will add the pressure of the clock working against you.

What do you think?

Sounds like a plan. I agree that 2.2 comp is the mainstream and it is tough getting enough scale trucks at times. I also like having a timed event. I would like to eventually adopt that into the VARCOR events, as more people become involved and are familiar with how things work.
