I wanna be Dave
NOTE:. I've removed the SCX10.2 from contention, and reworded below to reflect this.
I'm in a bit of a dilemma, and I've got less that 2 weeks to make a decision. When I first decided to get into crawlers, I decided to start with the Axial Capra (which I've turned into an incredible Start Wars tribute), and I also decided to limit myself to a total of 4 crawlers, each of which would be distinctly different (based on my currently long-term plans, I've already blown that last part to pieces...lol).
Part of those decisions was determining what my next two vehicles would be (it didn't matter, at that point, which of the two would be the 2nd, and which would be the 3rd). In the end, I decided on the RC4WD Trail Finder 2 Chassis Kit (thanks to several suggestions/recommendations from others within the RCC forum, I'll be using a body from Killerbody), and the Vanquish VS4-10 Pro...although, as for which would become the '2nd', and which the '3rd', would depend on which arrived first. I "opted-in" at my LHS for one of the VS4-10 Pros he had ordered, but, since none of my LHSs deal in the RC4WD kits, I ordered through Amazon (but NOT 'from', as I really dislike Amazon). Whichever arrived first would become my '2nd', with the "late arrival" becoming the '3rd'.
Well, the VS4-10 Pro arrived first, thus I thought that would be my '2nd'...but, I never had time to open it before heading out-of-state for Thanksgiving week, and the TF2 was delivered while I've been away. But...here comes the dilemma...I'm having second thoughts on the VS4-10 Pro. From what I've read, and the videos I've watched, the great majority (if not all) of the problems the "Origin" had have been corrected...but, at the same time, $750 is still A LOT of money for a kit (even if it does include a body, which I wouldn't be using anyway).
So, here's what I'm asking if "the people":
Should I stick with the VS4-10 Pro, or would the Trail King Pro be a better option? Price-wise, I could have 2 Trail King Pros for the price of a single VS4-10 Pro, and still have money left over. Put another way, for the price of the VS4-10 Pro (without any electronics), I could have the Trail King Pro w/ all electronics (but no body, wheels, or tires). I don't mind "spending money" when there's a real advantage for doing so...but, if all both are, essentially, 'equal', there's no point in needlessly spending, as money saved on the Trail King Pro could be put to better use in upgrading. I realize that the VS4-10 Pro is probably the "most refined", and that the SCX10.2 (which I'm no longer considering) is probably the "most popular", but I don't know where the Trail King Pro stands.
I'm hoping to receive replies from people who have at least some first-have knowledge of both, and can point out such things as advantages/disadvantages of each over the other, known problems of each, etc. While the TF2 will be a "true scale", the 'other' will be a comp crawler. Getting back to the "less than 2 weeks" I mentioned at the beginning, the is because I have less than 2 weeks remaining on my ability to return the VS4-10 Pro...so, if I'm to switch, a decision needs to be made before the end of next weekend (Dec. 8).
