Twin Hammers scale SCT conversion project

Just joined up, after lurking a couple older threads- I'm not new to forums though, I'm on Clodtalk, RCMT, as well as a couple 1:1 car forums.

I am in the process of planning a scale trophy truck/ SCT build based on a Twin Hammers kit version - I was debating on a TH, or a seriously modded SCX10, but am going with the TH kit for a few reasons, 1. Only need to shorten the wheelbase. 2. Comes with sway bars. 3. Has the scale suspension needed for the truck to look right.

I started this build because of a certain body and my absolute hatred of typical SCT trucks today (had 5 of them and sold 4, converted one to on-road - still have that one), anyway I got a TBG MRP Dodge trophy truck body, which I plan to make a replica of Walker Evans 1:1 truck (google pic)

I also already bought a used Blue Monkey vertical front shock plate, and plan to buy their rear upper link mount/ lower front plate to convert to the Traxxas style steering rack

SO my plan is to buy only the kit Monday, and sell most everything in it to afford the $150 in parts LOL.. The overall plan -

Traxxas Slash 2wd ultra shocks (all aluminum, TiNi coated shafts)
SC10 springs
Axial 1.9 Walker Evans wheels painted Silver
RC4WD Mud Thrashers
Team Associated SC700/ 3300kv brushless setup out of SC10RS
Single speed
Figure out how to shorten the wheelbase from 11.6" to 10" or so
Blue Monkey vertical servo mount
Blue Monkey front lower plate for TRX steering conversion
Kit sway bars
Probably use Parma body posts for mounting
HPI DT-1 interior

POSSIBLE PARTS SCX10 rear axle swap w/ 13/43 gearing, Axial Honcho rear roll cage.

Thanks man! Only need to figure out shorter rear lower arms once I get the body, which is coming from Canada, so the kit will likely show up before the body haha

Well bought a few parts tonight -

Blue Monkey Steering post hardware - for Traxxas bellcranks
New Slash stock steering setup
Associated SC10RS take off shocks (cheaper and better than Traxxas for racing IMO)
Losi 0819 servo for steering

Well guys I splurged on a kit at the LHS and got it basically assembled, I need to shorten the wheelbase by 35mm.

I actually have M4 turnbuckles left over from my on road Slash project that will work for upper links (104mm - 35mm = 69mm)

The lowers measure 118mm - 35mm = 83mm eye to eye anybody know of any? I'm going to try and shorten the stockers but not sure how the shocks will clear that short.. and not having shocks sucks.. I also plan to run the sway bars as well which attach at the lower shock mount screw so lots to think on and find some shorter pre-made lower links. Also have to trim the drive shaft back as well at least 1/2"

I was planning to run this in high gear, and in 2wd (leave the center shaft out) BUT I was assembling the front dif, went to rotate the gears to see they spun freely - nope - pull it back out and to my surprise - there is a unmachined tooth in the pinion LOL - so I left the whole front drivetrain out sadly.. and locked the trans in low - and stripped a couple screws so it is sadly permanent - I think I'll buy a Wraith trans and swap it in..

The track measurements are also off, the website says 150mm wide with the tires, but my kit is 200+mm at the ends of the axles..

Won't have those wheels.. or shocks - all just mock up - shocks are 110mm or so - it's higher in the rear than it's actually is going to be.. I'm done with it til the body shows up - I shortened the stock lower links to 85mm eye to eye, it kinda works, I'll have to buy another pair and redo them..

Well I have some good news and bad news.. this whole build will not work sadly it is to wide - the F=R axles are 210mm wide at the hubs..

Front of the body is 200mm wide
Rear of body is 210mm wide

So the wheels/tires will poke which will obviously not work - anyone interested in the setup minus the Blue Monkey plate? I'd sell everything but the vertical shock plate for $200 shipped..

I have the shocks/wheel/tires/body still sealed in the bags.. PM if interested - this is going to be a SCX10/AX10 style build now..

bloody shame this didn't work out.
for only 5mm of poke each side, would it work to run rc4wd (cchand) hex eliminating hub adapters?

wheelbase would be a challenge with shocks bolting to the lower arms but not impossible.

i am thinking about tackling a very similar project. VERY similar. RWD and different body but same idea. gonna swap to a scale rear axle too.

** here is a big hint... ;)
