Hi guys, I'm about to pickup a trx4 sport kit, and I'm gonna stuff in some electronics I have lying around. I was gonna throw in a hobbywing axe 540 2300kv combo and a reefs raw 500 servo, along with a spektrum radio and receiver...

Not sure on gearing or if it even comes with a pinion.. Leaning more towards a crawler based ratio for it, no idea what gearing is best suited for crawling with these as I'm totally new to the trx4. I know its 32 pitch tho...

Thanks

Get the 45T spur 11T pinion gear 32p/0.8Mod to start with and adjust from there. I dont know why they geared the kit differently. Other than its single speed over the two speed.

Is what i would do to get the crawler gear ratio.

I only slow crawl. No trail running.

I switched my sport over to 45T spur. I’ve tried 11,10 and 9t pinions all on 3s.

I’ve stuck with 9t. Great for crawling and nice and slow.

I Could trail ride with it as it has no problem going walking speeds.

Zero issues with heat.

Thanks guys

I’d look for a take off 45t spur on eBay. That way it will already come with the slipper clutch on.

It’ll save you you bucks that way.

I’ve bought a lot of new take off spurs on eBay and they’ve had zero issues.

ETA - you can also pick up a few pinions to try out also. They’re cheap enough. That you can figure out what you really like.

I’ve found that gear whine is the least with Traxxas pinions and spur gear.
