Hi All

New to the forms, and have a quick question(well maybe not quick) I already have the Traxxas 400 servo and the Traxxas BEC installed in my TRX-4 Defender I don’t really like the Traxxas BEC all that much it’s kinda wimpy and not worth the money. So I have a castle 2.0 BEC coming and my question is. Will the castle BEC be too much for the Traxxas 400 servo? Can it take that many Amps? I was thinking of running it @ 7.4 volts. And I’m also replacing the ESC with a mamba x and the Holmes Hobbies Revolver 540 1800kv. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Amps are what is drawn by the load, volts are supplied to the load. An 8 amp bec is capable of handling an 8 amp load, does not mean it supplies 8 Amps to the load.

Short answer, yes it'll be fine.

Yup...

Think of amperage as available power that is delivered on demand, and not what is automatically supplied, that would be voltage.

Right, I was reading the specs on the 400 servo it said it’s voltage range is 6-7.4 volts. I kinda wish I bought a different servo to begin with. It’s an ok servo but not for the price they’re asking. But hey it works and I already own it. And the Traxxas BEC makes everything look pretty but it’s so not worth the “Traxxas Tax” IMO. I’m also going to be using the Holmes y adapter to keep that voltage out of my rx and those micro servos. I learned that the hard way.

Also I’ve never had a castle 2.0 bec only the old ones, but you need a programmer to change the voltage output on the old ones. Default is 5.1v. If that’s the same on the new 2.0bec, you can run it but it’ll be less power to your servo than you likely want. The bec usually comes with a coupon for a free or cheap programmer so there’s that. It’s like $20 I believe.

You'll need to determine how much voltage your Rx can take as well. Not sure if you're running the Traxxas unit or aftermarket. Additionally, you won't need the Castle BEC with the Mamba-X.
