Have a lot of scale crawlers but the 1982 release made me decide to get my 1st RC4WD.
A bit disapointed by the paint quality, maybe I was expecting too much ... fender painting not aligned with wheel arch, chrome missing at the tips of the bumper ... but way better than I would have done and overall still a beautifull hardbody truck, and the engine bay is sweet.
First mod was moving the bottom plate of the leaf springs above them front and rear ... this flatten the leaf springs. Also move the rear shocks one hole inward, on their original location, their travel was limited, and move the steering link back.
Then it was time for a first, quick drive ... I was on holidays, with limited tinkering possibilities anyway.
Back home ...
First was replacing the receiver to use a proper radio (RC4GS) that can temper with the brutality of the 1060 ... I'm using the receiver box as storage for the wheel nut, so I'm sure to always have it available on the trail. Not that the original radio is that bad, but I don't plan to extend my thumb that much, nor to change for a more progressive ESC in a near future.
Added an anti-wrap bar ... not sure it's needed but doesn't hurt. I know it's not the right way to do it, but shipping from USA has become prohibitive since a few years so it'll do and the suspension doesn't have excessive binding.
Removed the front bumper mount ... the plastic one is too soft to my taste. However it leaves a void behind the body ... so I printed this part designed for another RC4WD Toyota. I'm remixing it as it's indering with the shackles ... guess it was designed for reverse mount.
Also painted the tips of the bumper black ... this corrects the missing chrome and it seems to be how it's supposed to be anyway.
The engine bay is sweet, but a bit bland.
First was giving some colors to the various parts.
And put them back in a body-color engine compartment, with a radiator painted black of course.
Unfortunatly in the painting process I lost some of the spark wire tips, I need to redesign them, and also re-install the battery's wires, but with a more realistic routing.
Black interior didn't feel right, found a can of Pretroleum Blue at the hardware store, it's close enough to the blue on the body. Also opened the windows.
