I'm thinking about changing out my Tekin Redline 13.5t motor for a Tekin T8 1350kv that I just acquired:shock: This is going to be put into White Lightning (Southern Buggy) so I am not super concerned about the interior mods to fit this 1:8 scale motor since there is no interior yet.
Anyhow, already have a Robinson GEN3 Slipper Unit (48p 80t spur gear) and don't have the money to change it out:cry:, so keep that in mind. My question (finally) is what pinion should I get? Robinson Racing makes Hard 48 Pitch Brushless Motor Pinions (Fits 5 mm motor shaft as the T8 is 5mm) with sizes ranging from 17t - 45t (<--- 45t pinion... WTF! :lmao:) With 13.5t Redline, I am currently running a 20t pinion with great success. I know that I should go to a 32p spur and pinion combo, but I'll have to save up for that. In the meantime, I'll just have to use throttle control"thumbsup"

On a different note... I am running a Venom 2100 mA 20c battery with the Redline. If I change to the T8, should i run another 2100 mA 20c battery (I have a second already) in parallel to double the 20c ---> 40c? Or does this matter since it is a low kv motor?

IMO the t8 is going to want a lot more than the 84 amps that two of those packs in parallel would be capable of.

Those batteries are rated for "Continuous Discharge: 20C (44A)" Would that not be enough to run in parallel? 44 amps x 2 = 88 amps?

Got ya! Any though on the pinion?

That depends on how many cells you are going to run. 1350kv is going to need 6s to get southern buggy wheel speed.

For instance my wraith runs a 3400kv on 3s for a total rpm of 37,740.
Your 1350kv on 6s would only turn 29,970rpm.

Your 1350kv on 6s would only turn 8,100rpm.

So RPM derives from the number of cells in battery motor and the kv rating to the related? RPM = # of cells X rated kv of motor

I don't know what I was doing there. Multi tasking a little two much I guess. I will edit the post. KV is the rpm per volt.

Gear it up , the t-8 has plenty of torque to handle taller gearing. Just watch the temp to make sure it isn't getting to warm. You Sb doesn't weigh all that much and has good airflow so it should allow for tall gearing. We ran these motors on 6s and 3s with the stacked t-case. 25 mph with no worries. Wheelies at 1/2 throttle.
