So I've had this rig for a little while now and did a build thread on the losi section since it's nite crawler based.
I am heading to the RC4WD EAST COAST SCALE CHALLENGE next month and upon further review I've been kinda lazy with the body and scale details. (I'll use the excuse I was focused on performance)
The base platform is a stock scx10 gen 1 (if it matters) C channel frame. With a skid I built to accommodate the nite crawler trans and link geometry
Here's some pictures of how I had it setup. It's a 5 link front and 4 link rear with a chassis mounted servo.
The panhard mount and link have been recently added.
I had a lexan cab only body on there but for a major event I left it was lack luster and that I could do better.
Just in case your wondering the rims are SUPERSHAFTY 2.2 prangs and the tires are a set of proline tsl super swamper XLs
For a short wheelbase rig it does every well. It holds its own in competition. At KOG I ran class3 with it and placed 7th overall. (Not to shabby for a class 2 truck.
I wanted something different through. And the builder in me got that itch you get. That restless feeling so I headed to my local hobby shop to see what hard bodies he had in stock.
I found a Tamiya globeliner body that looked awesome.
But I also found a Tamiya clod body as well
As you can tell I brought them both home. So I could decide at a later date.
The globeliner was the plan but after getting it on there and really looking at fitment by the time I got the body cut out enough to steer and flex it would have looked really... well... stupid. (I think with a wider wraith axle based rig it would have worked.)
So I started cutting on the clod body.
I also started a interior out of styrene and a interior roll cage out of 1/8" steel rod.
This is my first try with styrene
And I'd consider myself a novice at brazing compared to my friend at Grundish customs
I started by filling in the whole back of the cab. Who really needs a pesky rear window anyway.
I also cut out the hood. Well a majority it (you see why in a sec.
I mocked up the interior with wraith seats and decided I wanted to paint it a aged metal for a tubbed out race look.
I decided a military tan or beige would be the exterior color.
I used a heat gun and managed to get a good pinch on the front. Not it's time to explain the hood.
I've seen many times in the 1:1 world people using a "race hood" so here's my attempt. I ordered m2 scale hardware from lockedup rc and used it to attach the hood to the body.
I am really pleased with myself and how it's starting to look.
The interior is done, other than finding the right drivers for this spiderpig.
I also added metal sliders and a roof rack to the body along with a few stickers.
This is where I am stuck until I find some skilled drivers. Then it's final assembly and a small bit of testing before August.
Also I ordered the new Pitbull RB 1.9 XLs in alien compound. Fingers crossed they get here in time.
