I did not know where to post this thread, but since it is dealing with the axial scx10 i decided to post it here. So, my question is, what type of metal and size do you guys use for rc trailers? Also where do you guys buy the metal?

Im fixing to start building one for my son. I found most everything at home depot and lowes. What are you planning on making it out of?

Take a trip to your local hardware store or Lowes/Home Depot, check their raw materials area. I have been buying stuff from my True Value store here in town, but I stopped by the Menards 1 town over. They have 3X as much stuff as True Value and it's a lil cheaper. Now I just need to get back over there and pick up some brazing items.
Ideally, you could use some angle steel or aluminum or even square tubing. The last time I was in True Value, I remeber seeing some smallish aluminum c-channel, so that may be an option also.

Depends on the wall thickness, and if you're gonna thrash it or not. I think some thin gauge steel would be best. It's easy to work, to paint/keep paint on it, and cheaper.

i built a trailer out of 3/4" square steel tubing, tongue is 1/2" square tubing, deck is 22g sheet metal, 1/4" all thread for the axle and tires off a new bright rc.. i just tossed it on the scale and it came in at 5lbs 15oz. its not done yet though. my next one will be out of either 3/16th or 1/4" solid rod and expanded metal.
I'm thinking of doing my whole frame in 1/2in square steel tubing. Do you guys think that will be too much. I mean from a scale and proportional stand point?

any hardware store should have 3ft lengths of it. i get mine from canadian tire. 1/2in should be fine.

I'd check an industrial supply, like McMaster-Carr, they have some odd sizes you may need. I think they have 3/8" square tubing. I've never seen 1/4", although my LHS does have some small, odd-ball metal stock. Maybe check your nearest one.
