SCX10.2 Build Parts - Some concerns

Hi everyone!

I have been collecting parts for a ground up build of an SCX10.2 and have some concerns about some of the parts I already have.

1) For the axles I decided to go with the SSD Pro44 primarily for their cost to performance value. One thing I noticed is that some of the screw hole threads seem to have some of the black paint and/or anodizing in them which makes it difficult to screw in some of the screws. I normally do a light test assembly before screwing parts together and I noticed when doing this with the SSD link mounts and I could only get about 10 threads of the
screw in by hand.

This was more prominent on one of the two link mounts, the other was not as difficult to screw into. I was able to attach both link mounts but I'm a little concerned about the longevity of the screws due to the torque I had to apply to the screw heads to get them fully seated.

Is paint/finish inside thread holes normal on the Pro44 parts?

**Edit** I just read that all the screws are 3mm so I guess I could have chased them with my tap. That's what I get for assembling stuff while watching TV and talking to the wife at the same time

2) I ordered the Bowhouse RC HD battery tray + servo and bumper mount. The part arrived and I thought it was much nicer than the Axial multi-part mess.

In order to mount the part I had to make two modifications to the tray to clear the front shock hoop "tabs" that hang over the top of the chassis.

On the left side I had to sand down the back outside edge of the servo mount near the outer screw hole. On the right side I had to notch the vertical battery lip/guard so the right front shock hoop tab had clearance otherwise it would have pushed in on the side of the guard.

There was a fine hair line crack in the vertical battery lip/guard on the right side of the battery tray that started at the front edge and extended about half the length down the middle of the guard. I noticed this crack prior to making any of the modifications mentioned above. I did not think it was worth paying 1/4 of the total value to RMA the part so I used some Tamiya Extra Thin model cement (similar to Plasti-Weld). It seems to be holding together for now but I'm not sure about long-term durability.

3) ***This is more of a general gripe***

For the shock towers I chose Vanquish because I like the look and they are supposed to be good quality. The set I received had some pencil tip size flecks of missing finish on the hole edges of both the left and right front towers where the body mounts and the shock screws attach. There was also a small metal shaving inbetween one of the shock hole mounts and the inner body post hole. I already started the RMA process, I guess I just expected better QA for the price.

I have both pro44 axles. The rear I used gcm leaf perches and the screws threaded through fine. As for the 3 small screws that hold the axle tubes to the pumpkin, they were slightly tight. Front axle I installed the vp lowered links Mounts. No issues with those either

Pro44 are nice axles, I recently upgraded axles and built them completely. But chose not to go with the pro44. This is why. I added the complete cost of building the pro44s with complete locker axle shaft, gear sets, c hubs knuckles, hex's, diff cover wheel weights shock mounts and also new drive shafts. Then I added up the price of doing the same with Currie Rock Jock axles, and found that if I took off the wheel weights and drive shafts, the price was the same. No c hubs needed, no shock mounts needed, no diff cover needed. As all come with the rock jocks. The initial price may seem higher, but when you add up all the little extras, the price is similar.

Like I said previously, yes SSD housings are $24, but you only get the housings for that.
Then when you add the rest.. you see that they are $180, now add all the internal parts and you are up to $450 to build a complet set of SSD Axles. $500 to build the Rock Jocks..
Let’s see the math with that. SSD housings are $24 how much are the Rock jocks??

Im assuming at $450, you are pricing the most expensive internal parts that are available?

Here is the rock jock build
Vanquish and Incision for both builds

As you can see, with the coupon, $450 for the rock jock build, same as building the SSD without the coupon.
So that is why I went this direction.

Maybe next time he should try a different brand

Yea for sure, i wanted to build a set of vanquish axles but when i contacted vanquish they told me theyre not 100% about incision fitting in vanquish parts without modding so i decided to go with the rc4wd d44 axles (wraith style) cant agrue with buy one axles and get the 2nd free lmao
