British vintage RC icon Daniel Rowlands, who notably helped contribute to the development of the upcoming Schumacher RC Racing Masami CAT XLS re-release, died over the weekend. John Weston posted the following eulogy, written by Naushad Ali Junglee, to the IconicRC.com Facebook group yesterday morning:
"It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that our good friend, Daniel Rowlands, passed away from his battle with illness on the 16th of July 2017. He was surrounded by his family during his last moments.
If there was ever a legend in our modern resurrection of vintage rc, Dan would be it. He was a truly international figure and was known all around the world amongst enthusiasts. Some of his star moments included rebuilding the championship winning buggies of Joel Johnson and Jamie Booth. In fact, this trail of success even led to another former IFMAR World Champion asking Dan to restore one of his prized possessions.
However, his last hurrah was his instrumental contribution to the development of one of the most anticipated re-releases of modern times - the Schumacher Masami Cat XLS buggy. He provided essential input into its development.
As a close friend, Dan was one of the most kindest and honest people I have met. I am sure if you've met him you'd agree. Dan was a regular contributor to the U.K. vintage rc scene. His charity and desire to help others led to Iconic RC awarding him Member of the Year 2013.
On a more personal note, Dan was a loving husband and doting father to two beautiful girls. His passion for rc was strong but never overcame the love and affection he had for his family. He is also survived by his two parents, Michael and Sylvia, and sister Tanya.
You will be sorely missed by so many, my good friend and brother. It was an honour to know you. Much love always.
R.I.P."
