Reefs EZ bec?

Nope. Nor would I. Reefs servos are just rebranded AGFRC servos. The same is probably true for their gyro. AGFRC is also the OEM of Yokomo and other big-name servos.

Except the OP asked about a bec not a gyro.

Arrowpilot, sorry I do not have any experience with the Refs bec.

I only have used a Castle bec set to 8.4v (set by Holmes Hobbies) along with a Holmes Hobbies rx bypass. And at that I haven't even been able to get a drive outside, only basement testing. Seems to work well though and the combination even with adding some stuff to the bec from the options on the Holmes website comes out a bit cheaper. But it is not as slickly packaged as the reef's ez bec, so there might be more wires, etc.

Thanks I appreciate the information.

Well that was dumb. Posting under the influence of being sleep-deprived. Good catch.

My point stands though. I would not buy a Reefs product. I'd try to find the OEM of the BEC and go that route. I believe I saw information on this so I'll check and report back.

Can't find the OEM, but the Castle BEC can be had for about half the price. You don't need the aluminum case.

I also found this interesting option in my search:

Thanks for the info

Seems like a decent option and easy to install. Should work great if you only need to power one servo and dont want to solder.

Dig into the specs and it isnt a bad deal compared to castle. Reefs rates their bec at 10 amp continuous and 15a peak. The castle 10 amp is 10 amp peak, and 7 amp continuous. The castle bec 2.0 is closer in rating to reefs, but still lower and it is $41. Castle's waterproof 2.0 is the closest thing to the reefs in ratings and the price is pretty much identical.

Hobbywing has a bec that is half the price and similar ratings though.

My biggest concern that it is waterproof! Only need to power the steering servo. Leaning towards the Reefs. I’m running the hobb wing fusion pro 2300 KV. Its BEC maxed out at 7.4 V. Thanks

I've bought at least ten of the blue heatshrink castle becs. About half have died over the years. Some due to water, some due to shorted servos, others unexplainable.

I now only buy the grey aluminum case castle BEC and they've been 100% reliable. Must have over a dozen now. Many get regularly submerged. The cost is annoying, but I'll pay for reliability.

I assume you mean this grey cased bec from castle

Castle wp bec

That is good real world info Meatmonkey.

Also nice that the castle bec have programmable output voltage. Slightly future proofed.
