So my fourth wireless rc4wd controller went bad again. I bought new remote batteries and tried binding it again to no avail. Since I recently bought a dx5 rugged for my traxxas defender I need a way to use the 5th channel to control my 9.5 wan winch.
Can I use the wireless receiver box or can I simply plug the winch into the 5th slot on the spektrum receiver and set position 5 to on/off/on

You'll need a winch controller. I don't think you can just plug into the receiver like a regular servo. I recommend the Powershift RC, or Precision RC winch controllers. They're anywhere between $23 - $35 and more reliable than the RC4WD controllers.

One of the best winch controllers is the HW1060 esc.

Yes for winches. Adjustable speed plenty of power. Yes it has a footprint bigger than a HeyOK.
Priced right at about $20.00

The HW1060 just about the best winch controller for the money. The only trick to it is remembering to remove the BEC wire going to the RX.

The absolute BEST winch controllers that you can get are made by a member/Vendor on this site. His name is Al and his company is HeyOK performance, look him up and never look back.

Quite wasting your money on cheap junk that inevitably fails, HeyOK gear is the best of the best.

I agree ;)

Thank you for the kind words.

I'm here to help when you guys need something!

I want to let everyone know Al is the f$$king greatest! He emailed me and gave me options, I settled on two wired controllers and I thought all was golden. I pulled the traxxas stuff to start installing the dx5 rugged...ran into a unknown never talked about problem. Traxxas uses a five channel receiver and splits the toggle on their remote for channels 4 and 5. I had no idea and never once came across this anywhere on this forum or other groups. So I had to email Al back and explain, he offered wireless options so I changed my order again to one wired system for my Dingo and his wireless system with two light button options for the liht kits I ordered. Al was super understanding and cha ged my invoice again and told me he'd get right on making my controllers and get them sent out!

I felt pretty strongly that you'd have a good experience with him, glad to hear I was right!

Always great, my problem now is Horizon Hobby! What an absolute disgrace their customer service is! Five emails, and over an hour with their live chat tech support and the dx5 rugged still won't work!!!! I'm done with this crap, putting the traxxas remote back in the truck and never will recommend Spektrum OR Horizon Hobby again

Well that's disappointing but not surprising to hear!

For whatever it's worth I've been using a flysky gt3c that's hacked for increased channels and models. It's been an amazing radio setup for me.

I have a old spektrum dx3c and absolutely love the thing! Only problem is I needed more channels to run my new trx-4 defender and I needed a spektrum so I could add all my other vehicles to it and use all my old receivers.
