I have not seen too much on these tires other than a few tidbits and posts here on RCC, so I figured I'd do a little write up on mine"thumbsup"
Ok, I admit, I bought these simply cause they look nasty...I mean sweet:lmao:
Didn't really have any performance expectations other than that they would work well in the sloppy stuff (They are Boggers after all). Figured these would make a nice play tire when i don't want to run my usual 4.19 Claws.
Setup and Mounting.
Being that they are 1.7, you will need to do some stretching in order to get these on the popular 1.9 size. Luckily RC4WD is coming out with a few more styles of 1.7 so thats an option as well. Most of us will want these on 1.9s though. I had first tried mounting them on my 1.9 Racelines (internal beadlock) and while i could get them mounted, it was a ton of work to do so. Then I pulled out my old school Motoworx wheels and the tires went on with ease, primarily because of the external beadlock design. I was able to get the bead fully seated before putting the ring on. No forcing anything like on the Racelines.
For the foams I am running CI DWs for the 1.9 RB. The 1.7 Sipped Boggers and Rock Beast are a similar size so they fit in there great. Actually the slightly wider foam of the Rock Beast filled out the slight bulge as a result of stretching. The sidewall support is fantastic now. I should note that these are indeed X2SS compound which I am a huge fan of. I know a group of you want RC4WD to release the 1.9 Boggers in X2SS...and they should.
First run.
I am running them on my 2 Door JK build, weighing in at just under 8lbs. This rig normally lives on 4.19 Baja Claws and 80mm shocks as it is an ST class Jeep, but I had to swap in my old set of 90s to be able to fit the tires under the full fenders. It's a little taller than I'm used to, but for just out messing around on the trails it should be fine.
First off, these tires basically scream "Gas it...Gas it!"
Seriously, wheelspeed is the name of the game with the Boggers. Perhaps it's cause I've seen too many MadRam11 and Busted Knuckle vids, but hey, momentum does work. A lot of times with a slow crawl, they will just spin, but lay into it a bit and it'll usually pull through. I was running on a river shore so there was plenty of smooth river rock, water and muck to go around and really challenge these tires. I was also able to do some loose dirt hill climbs with pretty good sucess.
Boggers alway look better muddy:lmao:
There were few rocks at this particular location but I did find one decent one. On dry rock they hooked up pretty well considering the tread pattern and actual lack of lugs. The compound is a huge help in this case along with the always supportive closed cell foam that keeps the lugs from folding over too badly.
.
Final thoughts.
The 1.7 Sipped Boggers are what I would consider a "fun" tire. They are neither a hardcore rock tire nor an ultra scale AT tire, yet for out out on the trails and just messing around they work great. This type of tire really does excel in mud; just like the BFG Krawler was a purpose built rock tire, the Interco Bogger is a purpose built mud tire. So if you're in the market for a scale tire that works great in the sloppy stuff and has a super aggressive look to them, the 1.7 Bogger just might be for you.
Once the foams break in a little bit, Ill take it out to the rocks and post up how they do.
