What are my options for a radio with a 3 position momentary switch on the grip...Is the Spektrum DX5C/Rugged line about it?

Radiolink RC4 or 6GS radios can have the thumb switch set to whatever mode you need, including momentary operation. I run my winches from one of the 3way switches so I don't bump it inadvertently.

I might have to make the switch to Spektrum. Seems like it is the most common setup I see when I go to the bigger comps. Hopefully they have some good Black Friday deals.

I know a few folks running the Radiolink. They use one of the toggles to set winch direction then the button the grip as a momentary to activate it. I'm wanting a 3 position momentary so I can just use my thumb to make the winch go in or out. This keeps my other hand free to put the hook where I need it.

As much as I harp on my dx5 rugid I do have to admit it's pretty handy for running a winch off of the thumb operated momentary switchs. Makes it easy to drive and winch at the same time.

personally I like my flysky gt3c there are 2 3 positions switches that can be set to be momentary switches on the grip perfect for winching
there are better radios out there but th gt3c is cheap and works great
I have a pile of spectrum radios I won't run them they sit in the corner with all my broken and or rtr radios

The radiomaster mt12 is something that has just been released. It has a ton of options so you could set up a winch but at the same time it might have so many options that it gets complicated.

Edit: I missed that you're looking for a 3 position switch on the grip and I'm not sure if the radiomaster has that. The flysky gt5 has a 3 position on the grip but it's a lever. I'm not sure if you'd like that or just want buttons.

I think I like the setup on the Spektrums the best. I just dont like the rest of the radio so much. The OG Rugged is on sale for $240 right now with a RX. Is the touchpad on the green one that much better? Why the hell didnt they upgrade them all to the newer pad?

Flysky noble is my favorite all time radio. User friendly and anything (switch, button, dials) can be programmed for momentary, 2 or 3 pos in literally seconds. I wont use other radios anymore for racing or crawling, so far ahead of other radios for ease of use.

I have an NB4 and do like it. I was using the dial right by my thumb to run the winch but it was a bit clunky. Sometimes I'd overshoot the center point and start winching in or out unintentionally. I'm now using the paddles as momentary and it is working much better for me. Just going to take some getting used to.

Ive been happy with my DX5 Rugged for winch control. Took me awhile to figure out how to get it setup like I wanted but now that its setup has been great.

And now Spektrum releases a DX6C, which addressed one of my complaints with the DX5C, which is no backlight. I wonder if they will be updating the Rugged lineup as well.

This was a little bit of a pain in the ass to figure out.... The Sanwa radios have a few options, my MTS has a push button that is assignable. I assigned it to "reel in" position of my winch channel (which is Channel 3 on a slide switch for in and out). Works great.
